Job description

Summary: We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Manager of the Special Projects Division to oversee all aspects of project execution, sales, and operations for our specialized work in metal panel cladding systems and glass and glazing systems. This role is responsible for building and leading a high-performing team, ensuring operational excellence, driving business growth, and delivering successful project outcomes for clients in the commercial construction industry.

 Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Staffing

  • Oversee and train existing SPD staff on continued growth and learning.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and develop team members across estimating, project management,

and field operations.

  • Provide mentorship and career development opportunities, fostering a culture of

accountability, collaboration, and safety.

  • Conduct regular performance reviews and establish measurable performance

objectives.

  • Manage workload distribution and resource allocation to ensure project efficiency.

Sales & Business Development

  • Establish annual sales goals for the division and develop strategies to meet or exceed

targets.

  • Maintain acceptable profit margins for all projects and focus efforts to quickly generate

revenue opportunities. 

  • Build and maintain strong client relationships with general contractors, architects, and

developers.

  • Identify new opportunities in target markets and support business development efforts.
  • Collaborate with marketing and executive leadership to position the company

competitively.

  • Develop and maintain good working relations with our vendor pool, ensuring the best

possible outcome and service for our projects.

Estimating & Preconstruction

  • Oversee preparation of accurate and competitive estimates for special projects.
  • Review project specifications, drawings, and bid documents to determine project scope

and cost.

  • Approve estimates, ensuring alignment with company pricing standards and profitability

targets.

  • Support preconstruction efforts including value engineering, constructability reviews,

and proposal development.

Project Management & Execution

  • Provide oversight of all project phases from contract award through closeout.
  • Ensure projects are delivered safely on time, within budget, and to quality standards.
  • Monitor project schedules, budgets, and performance metrics.
  • Serve as the point of escalation for project challenges and client concerns.

Financial Management & Billing

  • Review and approve project budgets, change orders, and pay applications.
  • Ensure timely and accurate billing in accordance with contract terms.
  • Monitor financial performance of the division, analyzing variances and implementing

corrective actions as needed.

  • Work with accounting and executive leadership to maintain strong cash flow and

profitability.

Contract Administration

  • Review contracts for scope, schedule, terms, and risk management prior to execution.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and company policies.
  • Negotiate terms and conditions with clients, subcontractors, and vendors when

necessary.

  • Mitigate risks by identifying potential exposures and developing proactive solutions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Architecture, or related field

(preferred). 

  • Minimum 7–10 years of progressive experience in the commercial façade industry, with

specific expertise in metal panel cladding and glass & glazing systems.

  • Proven leadership experience in managing teams and delivering complex projects.
  • Strong knowledge of construction contracts, estimating, project management, and

financial reporting.

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and client relationship skills.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard project management and estimating software.
