Job Description About us: Burlington Recreation & Parks provides opportunities for youth and adults to participate in a wide array of sports. Athletic programs focus on providing a fun and competitive atmosphere in a safe athletic environment. What you will do: An employee in this role assists in the development and management of community-demanded programs for the Athletic Division including both adult and youth athletics.

Responsibilities include making recommendations to the Division's budget, organizing state, regional, and national athletic events, registering teams and participants, creating activity rosters and scheduling part-time staff. The role requires strong customer service skills, effective communication, and sound judgment to enforce policies and ensure program success. The position works under the direct supervision of the Athletics Supervisor.

Examples of Duties Program Registration: Handles youth and adult participant registrations for various programs. Tournament Coordination: Schedules tournaments and recruits events to maximize facility usage. Budget Management: Assist in the oversight of the Division's budget, ensuring financial accountability and efficiency.

Staffing & Scheduling: Coordinates part-time staff schedules, works with contractual organizers, plans league schedules, and reschedules weather-affected games. Coaches Leadership: Organizes and conducts informative meetings for program coaches. Fee Collection: Collects fees for registration, participation, and facility rentals.

Participant Supervision: Supervises program participants, enforces rules, and disciplines as necessary. Policy Enforcement: Ensures adherence to established program and department policies and procedures. Marketing & Outreach: Drives engagement through creative social media campaigns and promotional materials.

Human Resources Management: Interviews job candidates, recommends hires, evaluates employee performance, and assigns roles while maintaining confidential records. Flexible Problem Solver: Handles additional duties and unexpected challenges as required. Qualifications Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Recreation Expertise: Deep understanding of recreation and athletic program planning, development, and public recreation objectives with an ability to learn recreation management software.

Sports Knowledge: Proficient in major sports like baseball, softball, tennis, soccer, and basketball, with familiarity in a variety of other sports. Leadership Skills: Skilled in coordinating and supervising teams to achieve program goals efficiently. Effective Communication: Excels in both oral and written communication, ensuring clarity and professionalism.

Organizational Precision: Adept at preparing, maintaining, and managing records for purchases, equipment, and personnel. Emergency Preparedness: Capable of acting decisively and appropriately in urgent or emergency situations. Conflict Resolution: Handles disputes with objectivity, fairness, and firmness to maintain harmony and fairness.

Relationship Builder: Builds strong working relationships with staff, community leaders, volunteers, and the public to foster a collaborative environment. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Leisure Studies, Recreation, or any related field and considerable work experience in recreation programming, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid North Carolina Commercial Driver's License Supplemental Information Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Work in this class is described as being sedentary and seldom requires much physical exertion to complete tasks.

Work typically involves the ability to physically perform the basic life operational functions of reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and repetitive motions. Employee regularly operates a variety of machinery and equipment, including telephones, computers, calculators, copiers, facsimile machines, and etcetera. Work necessitates visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of work assigned in preparing and analyzing figures, accounting, transcription, computer terminal viewing and extensive reading.
