The Engineer is responsible for reviewing and developing modifications and repairs to improve or repair WGA aircraft for airworthiness and regulatory compliance. The Engineer reports to the Manager of Engineering.
Essential Duties:
  • Ensures aircraft are engineered for maximum safety and reliability at minimum cost.
  • Engineers aircraft to ensure they remain in a continuously airworthy condition.
  • Writes detailed engineering orders authorizing modifications and non-standard repairs necessitated by regulatory, safety, or economic requirements.
  • Maintains close liaison with other departments and industry to assure that engineering and maintenance practices comply with, or surpass, policies and regulations of applicable government agencies.
  • Prepares aircraft Weight amp; Balance documents.
  • Analyzes and records component failures with a view to improving airworthiness and reducing financial costs.
  • Reviews and disseminates service bulletins, service letter, operator’s letters and other data of this type.
  • Directs and controls various special projects as assigned by the Manager of Engineering.
  • Determines the proper course of action and initiates the applicable FCBS engineering documentation. Engineers are responsible for the quality of their work and any other work they have reviewed or approved.
  • Enters Engineering Authorization (EA) data into the electronic maintenance tracking program.
  • Develops Airworthiness Directive Analysis using established WGA process and procedures for existing and new FAA AD compliance.
  • Identifies Intervals and Methods of Airworthiness Directive Compliance.
  • Looks for and acts on opportunities to increase airline profit, increase block hours, decrease the cost per block hour and increase aircraft reliability.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Manager of Engineering.
Minimum Education/Experience/Skills:
  • A amp;P Certificate and/or Engineering Degree.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Highly detail oriented.
  • Ability to work under various levels of supervision.
  • Ability to work on a computer for long periods.
Preferred Education/Experience/Skills:
Minimum plus the following:
  • Maintenance Experience on the Boeing 747-400 and/or MD-11.
  • Technical Writing – Ability to understand and generate understandable work instructions.
  • Experience with MyBoeingFleet.com including, but not limited to the Boeing Service Request System, Boeing Product Standards, Boeing Engineering Information Delivery and the ability to effectively use these tools.
  • Experience with Boeing Manuals (AMM, IPC, SRM, SSM, WDM, ITEL, Etc.) and Service Information (Service Letters and Service Bulletins).
  • Experience with FAA Airworthiness Directive Analysis.
  • Experience in understanding, maintaining, and updating Aircraft Weight and Balance.
  • Experience in Aircraft Records Review for Aircraft that have flown with Foreign and/or Domestic Air Carriers.
  • Experience with TRAX or eMRO including management of Engineering Controls as well as Engine Modules and NLAs.
Ideal Education/Experience/Skills:
Preferred plus the following:
  • Experience with Modifications of Transport Category Aircraft.
  • Experience with Transport Category Aircraft Heavy Maintenance.
  • Experience with Reading and Understanding Boeing/MD Engineering Drawings.
  • Experience in creating Aircraft Job Cards for Modifications based on approved data, for compliance with Airworthiness Directives and for meeting company requirements.
  • Basic Knowledge of FAA, EASA and ICAO aircraft and airspace regulations and requirements.
  • Intermediate Understanding of the function of aircraft and avionics systems and components.
  • Experience and Proficiency in troubleshooting aircraft systems.
  • Experience in understanding repair approval methods and ability to analyze current and previous major and minor repairs and alterations for accuracy and adequacy of acceptable or approved data.
  • Experience with Transport Category LRU Data Loading, Software Maintenance and Software Library/Aircraft Software Configuration Management.
  • Experience in working with and supporting FAA Designees, including DARs and DERs.
