Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Contractor Project Manager with extensive field experience and a strong command of labor and material cost management. This role is ideal for someone who understands the realities of mechanical construction in the field and can translate that knowledge into effective project planning, execution, and financial control. The Project Manager will oversee multiple projects from pre-construction through closeout, ensuring they are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.


Key Responsibilities

Project Planning & Execution

  • Lead mechanical construction projects from initiation through completion, including HVAC, piping, and related systems.
  • Develop project schedules, manpower plans, and material procurement strategies.
  • Coordinate with field supervisors, foremen, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Conduct regular site visits to monitor progress, resolve issues, and support field teams.

Cost Management

  • Create, track, and manage project budgets, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
  • Analyze labor productivity and adjust manpower plans to maintain efficiency.
  • Review and approve purchase orders, change orders, and invoices.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or safety.

Field Coordination & Leadership

  • Serve as a technical resource for field crews, leveraging hands-on mechanical experience to guide installation methods and problem-solving.
  • Ensure field teams have the information, materials, and support needed to perform work efficiently.
  • Maintain strong communication between office and field operations.
  • Maintain weekly project updates and forecasting for jobs in progress and future scheduled work

Client & Stakeholder Communication

  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients, engineers, general contractors, and inspectors.
  • Lead project meetings, provide progress updates, and manage expectations.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships to support repeat business.

Quality, Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure all work complies with mechanical codes, project specifications, and company standards.
  • Promote and enforce jobsite safety practices.
  • Perform Tool Box talks
  • Oversee commissioning, testing, and project closeout documentation.

Qualifications

  • 5-10+ years of mechanical construction field experience (HVAC, piping, plumbing, or related trades).
  • 3+ years of project management experience with a mechanical contractor preferred.
  • Strong understanding of labor productivity, crew management, and material procurement.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, analyze costs, and maintain financial control of projects.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with project management software, estimating tools, and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, and submittals.
