What is the difference between Contract Yoga Instructor vs Part-Time Yoga Instructor?

CredentialsYoga certification, CPR, experienceYoga certification, CPR, experience
Work EnvironmentVaries by contract, often multiple locationsStudio, gym, or community centers, limited locations
Employment TypeTemporary, project-basedScheduled hours, ongoing or seasonal
Usage in IndustryCommon for freelance or independent instructorsCommon for instructors seeking flexible hours

Contract Yoga Instructors typically work on a temporary basis, often for specific projects or locations, and may have multiple contracts. Part-Time Yoga Instructors usually have scheduled hours, working regularly but fewer hours than full-time staff. Both roles require similar certifications and are common in the yoga industry, but the contract role offers more flexibility and variety, while the part-time role provides more consistent scheduling.

What are some common challenges contract yoga instructors face when working at multiple studios?

Contract yoga instructors often manage schedules across several studios, which can lead to challenges with time management and commuting between locations. Additionally, instructors may need to adapt quickly to different studio cultures, class formats, and client expectations. Building strong rapport with students and maintaining a consistent personal brand while working in various environments are also important for professional growth. Flexibility and strong communication skills are key to successfully navigating these dynamics.

What are contract yoga instructors?

Contract yoga instructors are professionals who teach yoga classes on a contractual basis rather than as full-time employees. They typically work independently, providing instruction at gyms, studios, corporate offices, or private settings for a predetermined period or number of sessions. Their responsibilities include planning and leading yoga sessions, ensuring student safety, and sometimes managing their own schedules and client relationships. Contract instructors often have flexibility in their work arrangements but must handle their own taxes, insurance, and benefits.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Contract Yoga Instructor, and why are they important?

To excel as a Contract Yoga Instructor, you need in-depth knowledge of yoga techniques, anatomy, and teaching methodologies, typically supported by a recognized yoga instructor certification (such as RYT 200). Familiarity with class management software and music streaming platforms, as well as first aid certification, are often required. Strong communication, adaptability, and motivational skills help build rapport with students and tailor classes to varying abilities. These competencies ensure safe, engaging, and effective sessions that support client retention and professional growth.

Job description

Responsibilities

Springwoods Behavioral Health is currently seeking a compassionate and talented Yoga Intructor  to join our team.

At Springwoods Behavioral Health we understand that not all wounds are visible. Depression, anxiety, trauma, PTSD, addiction, and suicide affects millions of individuals and families.  Our mission is to be a leader in behavioral healthcare, dedicated to excellent service in the community.

Springwoods Behavioral Health offers a continuum of services designed to help children, adolescents and adults who are experiencing behavioral, emotional or addictive problems that can lead to fractured lives. Our team of professionals includes board-certified child/adolescent and adult psychiatrists, licensed clinical therapists, nurses and mental health associates who are here to help people reconnect with their families, friends and employers so that they may lead productive lives.

We believe in an individualized, patient-focused approach to diagnosis and treatment. For some, anxiety or drug dependence looks different from others with the same diagnoses, and in some cases, behavioral health and substance use disorders occur simultaneously. In these cases of dual diagnosis, we treat the patients in the best way possible given their specific needs.

The Yoga Instructor is responsible for teaching patients the practice of yoga poses, breathing and meditation.  Yoga is a universal practice.  Yoga supports patients in connecting with mind, body and soul.  Yoga serves the purpose of teaching a positive relationship with the body, breathing techniques as a way of connecting with the body versus being disconnected with the body and meditation to promote mindfulness skills.

Springwoods Behavioral Health, an 80-bed behavioral health facility located in Fayetteville, Arkansas, provides acute inpatient treatment for adolescent, adult, and specialty program for women. The hospital also offers outpatient treatment.  Our six-acre campus is adjacent to a 123-acre Audubon Wildlife and Bird Sanctuary, which is held in perpetuity and cannot be developed from its natural state. This provides Springwoods with a peaceful setting for those embarked on the road to recovery.
