Contract Wireless Design Engineer information

What are some common challenges faced by contract wireless design engineers, and how can they be managed effectively?

Contract Wireless Design Engineers often encounter challenges such as adapting quickly to different client requirements, staying up-to-date with rapidly evolving wireless technologies, and ensuring seamless integration with existing infrastructure. Managing these challenges requires strong communication with clients, ongoing education on the latest industry standards, and effective collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. Building a robust professional network and maintaining clear documentation can also help streamline project transitions and maintain high-quality deliverables.

What is the difference between Contract Wireless Design Engineer vs Contract RF Engineer?

AspectContract Wireless Design EngineerContract RF Engineer
CredentialsBachelor's in Electrical Engineering, certifications like CWNE or RF-relatedBachelor's in Electrical or Electronics Engineering, RF certifications
Work EnvironmentDesign labs, client sites, telecom companiesTesting labs, field sites, telecom providers
Industry UsageWireless network design, 4G/5G, LTE, Wi-FiRF testing, signal analysis, network optimization

The Contract Wireless Design Engineer primarily focuses on designing wireless networks and systems, while the Contract RF Engineer specializes in RF testing, signal analysis, and troubleshooting. Both roles require similar technical credentials and often work within telecom environments, but their core responsibilities differ in the design versus testing aspects of wireless technology.

What is a contract wireless design engineer?

Contract Wireless Design Engineers are professionals who design and optimize wireless communication networks, such as cellular, Wi-Fi, or IoT systems, on a temporary or project-specific basis. They typically work with companies needing specialized wireless solutions, handling tasks like site surveys, network planning, radio frequency (RF) design, and troubleshooting. These engineers often use sophisticated simulation tools and collaborate with other engineers to ensure optimal network performance, coverage, and reliability. Their contract status means they are hired for specific projects or periods rather than as permanent staff.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a contract wireless design engineer?

To thrive as a Contract Wireless Design Engineer, you need a strong background in RF engineering, wireless network design, and a relevant engineering degree. Familiarity with tools such as Atoll, iBwave, TEMS, and knowledge of LTE/5G standards, along with certifications like CWNA or CCNA Wireless, are typically required. Excellent problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills set top candidates apart. These skills ensure the delivery of robust wireless solutions that meet client specifications and industry standards.

Job description

Mechanical Design Engineer

Location: Fishers, IN

Position Overview

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a dedicated in‑house engineering group responsible for HVAC system design and limited plumbing design support. This position supports design‑build project delivery, working directly alongside internal fabrication, installation, BIM, and electrical teams to develop efficient, constructible mechanical systems.

Unlike traditional plan/spec engineering roles, this position offers direct involvement in design/bid and design‑build work, allowing engineers to maintain technical authority while benefiting from streamlined project coordination and accelerated design cycles. The engineering team plays an integral role throughout project execution, from concept development through construction support.

Core Responsibilities
  • Develop HVAC system designs and construction documents, including drawings and specifications, for commercial, institutional, and industrial facilities
  • Perform heating and cooling load calculations using Trace or similar software and evaluate system options based on performance, constructability, and project requirements
  • Select mechanical equipment and systems; size ductwork, hydronic piping, and plumbing components
  • Coordinate with equipment manufacturers and vendors to develop compliant, site‑specific design solutions
  • Conduct field surveys and existing conditions assessments in support of proposals and active projects
  • Contribute to project planning by adjusting design approaches and supporting detailed design phases
  • Prepare, review, and verify engineering calculations, reports, and technical documentation
  • Coordinate mechanical designs with other disciplines using Revit and Navisworks, resolving clashes and constructability concerns
  • Provide ongoing coordination and technical support throughout the design and construction process
Qualifications
  • 4+ years of mechanical engineering experience (HVAC or plumbing systems)-
  • If a candidate is lighter in HVAC/Plumbing experience here they need to make up for it with strong Revit or technical experience
  • Revit design proficiency
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to coordinate between disciplines on the design

Nice-to-Haves:

  • Commercial and industrial systems experience is preferred
  • Experience from design consulting firms is also preferred
Project Exposure
  • Industrial and manufacturing facilities
  • Warehouse and tenant improvement projects
  • Commercial buildings including higher education, K‑12, hospitality, office, and large food service facilities
Engineering Environment

This role is part of a fully integrated engineering organization where design decisions directly inform fabrication and installation. Engineers benefit from close collaboration with BIM specialists, electrical engineers, and construction teams, resulting in practical, efficient designs and reduced rework. The organization emphasizes technical rigor, coordination efficiency, and accountability across disciplines.

What Sets This Opportunity Apart
  • In‑house engineering team with direct influence over constructability
  • Integrated design‑build delivery supporting faster project execution
  • Exposure to a diverse range of building types and mechanical systems
  • Technically focused environment with strong cross‑discipline collaboration
  • Stable backlog of work and long‑term investment in engineering resources
