Contract Unigraphics Nx Programmer information

What is a contract Unigraphics NX programmer?

Contract Unigraphics NX Programmers are professionals who specialize in using Siemens NX (formerly known as Unigraphics), a leading computer-aided design (CAD), manufacturing (CAM), and engineering (CAE) software. They are hired on a contract basis to create, modify, and optimize 3D models, assemblies, and engineering drawings for various industries such as aerospace, automotive, and manufacturing. Their responsibilities may include programming CNC machines, developing product prototypes, and improving existing designs to meet project specifications and deadlines. These specialists are valued for their expertise in advanced CAD tools and their ability to deliver high-quality results on a project-by-project basis.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a contract Unigraphics NX programmer?

To excel as a Contract Unigraphics NX Programmer, you need expertise in CAD/CAM design, mechanical engineering principles, and a solid understanding of manufacturing processes, often backed by a relevant technical degree or industry experience. Proficiency with Siemens NX (Unigraphics) software and familiarity with PLM systems, CNC programming, and GD&T standards are typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication help you collaborate with engineering teams and ensure precision in complex projects. These skills are crucial for delivering accurate, manufacturable designs and meeting tight project deadlines in a competitive engineering environment.

What are some common challenges faced by contract Unigraphics NX programmers when working with diverse client specifications?

Contract Unigraphics NX Programmers often encounter the challenge of adapting to varying client standards and workflows, especially when transitioning between projects in different industries. Each client may have unique preferences for modeling techniques, file management, and revision control, requiring quick learning and flexibility. Effective communication with engineering teams and a strong understanding of both the software and the client's requirements are crucial for delivering accurate, timely results. Staying organized and maintaining clear documentation helps ensure smooth project handoffs and minimizes errors.

What is the difference between Contract Unigraphics Nx Programmer vs Contract CAD Designer?

AspectContract Unigraphics Nx ProgrammerContract CAD Designer
Required SkillsUnigraphics NX, CAD/CAM software, programmingCAD software, design skills, drafting
Work EnvironmentManufacturing, engineering, product developmentArchitecture, product design, engineering
CertificationsCAD software proficiency, possibly NX certificationsDesign certifications, CAD proficiency
Industry UsageAutomotive, aerospace, manufacturingArchitecture, industrial design, engineering

The Contract Unigraphics Nx Programmer focuses on programming and developing models within Unigraphics NX for manufacturing and engineering projects. In contrast, the Contract CAD Designer primarily handles designing and drafting using CAD software for various industries. While both roles require CAD proficiency, the programmer emphasizes scripting and automation within NX, whereas the designer emphasizes visual design and drafting skills.

Job description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Powertrain 1D Simulation Engineer to lead and execute complex simulation projects using the GT-Suite software platform. In this role, you will be responsible for the development, calibration, and application of 1D CFD models to analyze, optimize, and design propulsion systems. The ideal candidate will possess deep analytical capabilities, a proven track record in project leadership, and expertise in both conventional and alternative fuel powertrains.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead 1D Model Development & Analysis: Develop, build, tune, and correlate high-fidelity 1D CFD models for propulsion systems (including gasoline, diesel, and H2 engines) using GT-Power, BOOST, GT-Cool, and GT-Drive.
  • Drive System Optimization: Perform propulsion system performance analysis, thermal management (STM), and optimization using Model-Based Design (MBD) and Functional-Based Design (FBD) processes. Utilize Design of Experiments (DOE) and Model-in-the-Loop (MiL) techniques for design parameter optimization.
  • Technical Leadership & Mentorship: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers. Lead project teams, manage deliverables, and contribute to team growth and capability development.
  • Advanced Propulsion Support: Support the development of advanced propulsion systems, including hybrid and electric vehicles, through integrated system modeling and analysis.
  • Boosting System Expertise: Conduct turbocharger matching, evaluation, and transient load step control analysis. Analyze LP/HP EGR systems to improve fuel economy.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work collaboratively with test engineers to develop dyno procedures, validate model predictions, and correlate simulation results with experimental data.
  • Project Management: Manage project timelines, resources, and technical deliverables within the simulation team, ensuring alignment with overall program objectives.
Qualifications & Skills
Required:
  • Master's or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of direct, hands-on experience in 1D CFD simulation of powertrain systems using the GT-Suite (GT-Power, GT-Cool, GT-Drive).
  • Proven experience in engine performance analysis, thermal systems modeling, and propulsion system optimization.
  • Strong background in model calibration and correlation with physical test data.
  • Demonstrated experience in project leadership, team mentoring, and managing technical projects.
  • High level of analytical and problem-solving skills for unusual and complex engineering challenges.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.

Preferred:
  • Ph.D. in Internal Combustion Engine.
  • Experience with MATLAB/Simulink for co-simulation applications.
  • Knowledge of hybrid and electric vehicle propulsion system integration.
  • Experience with sensors and actuators modeling and integration.
  • Proficiency with UNIGRAPHICS NX and MathCAD.
