Job description


Job Title: Tooling and Automation Engineer

Job Summary: Responsible for design assembly processes for products. Perform the research and implement new technologies necessary to tackle complex assembly and automation problems that have direct impact to the quality and production of products. Ensure production's stability and efficiency.

Job Functions:

  • Responsible for design, verification, and installation of tooling and fixxtures based upon project progress, timeline, and budget; ensure newly-developed tooling associated with specific project to be effective
  • Responsible for all tooling/fixture related work instruction drafting, revision, update, and records keeping
  • Provide direction and mentorship to third party machine/automation suppliers and/or CM’s; be the technical leader and driver on owned projects; serve as a technical resource to other engineering groups and project leaders
  • Organize cross-functional reviews of the machine requirements, design, qualification and capability
  • Travel to the machine supplier and contract manufacturer for equipment bring-up, qualification, acceptance testing and support during build events
  • Responsible for research and development of new automated cell based on current manufacturing process standards to fulfill the needs of increasing production efficiency, reducing quality issues, and reasonably minimizing cost;
  • Coordination between third party machine/automation suppliers and internal installation/integration team through planning, installation and integration of new automated cell.
  • Designs and develops technically complex processes to improve quality and efficiency. Utilize statistical tools (such as GR&R, SPC and Cp/pCk) to ensure processes/fixtures are salable and are continuing to perform properly once qualified.
  • Provide early and on going manufacturing involvement to ensure new products are mechanically manufacturer with existing or being developed equipment
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Languages spoken commonly in the workplace are English; the ability of bilingual, such as mandarin, is a plus.
  • Ability to read, understand and comprehend documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to speak effectively and interact with other team members, other engineers, leadership and customers.
  • 1 to 3 years manufacturing experience and /or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred. Bachelor's degree and above, major in machine design, manufacturing, and automation or equivalent.
  • Healthy. Able to Travel. Able to work in a manufacturing environment.The employee is regularly required o stand for long periods. Duties include turning at the waist, reaching, bending, squatting and lifting up to 50 pounds. Ability to pass static strength requirements (grip)
  • Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less. Use this factor when special and minute accuracy is demanded
  • Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more. Use this factor when visual efficiency in terms of far acuity is required in day and night/dark conditions
  • Three-dimensional vision. Ability to judge distances and spatial relationships so as to see objects where and as they actually are
  • Ability to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Observing an area that can be seen up and down or to right or left while eyes are fixed on a given point. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Safety requirements for this position are safety glasses, hearing protection and steel-toed work boots
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables
  • Knowledge of programming
  • Familiar with Office software, basic network operations and e-mail reception and sending
  • Proficient with 3D modeling designs, and CAD software as UG, Catia or Solidworks
  • Proficient with tooling/fixtures installment and trouble-shooting skills
  • Proficient with robot cell design and robot programming
  • Proficient with PLC and vision programming
  • Familiar with the manufacturing technology, especailly underlying the assembly process
  • Able to communicate with other department to other technical issues related in tooling/fixtures
