Position Overview

The Production Control Supervisor leads the daily execution of production-control activities across assigned manufacturing value streams. This role converts the production schedule into clear shop-floor priorities by coordinating work orders, labor and capacity requirements, material readiness, equipment constraints, engineering documentation, and production status. The Supervisor maintains disciplined schedule control and ensures issues that threaten throughput or customer delivery are identified and escalated early.

This is a hands-on manufacturing leadership role that supervises production-control personnel and works closely with Operations, Production, Planning, Materials, Supply Chain, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, Warehouse, and Program Management. The successful candidate brings strong floor presence, ERP/MRP discipline, data-driven problem solving, and the ability to keep priorities aligned in a fast-moving contract manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Production Control Leadership & Team Supervision
    • Lead daily production-control execution across assigned value streams, establishing clear priorities for schedule attainment, work-order readiness, material flow, throughput, quality, and customer delivery.
    • Supervise, coach, and develop production-control coordinators, schedulers, expediters, or other assigned personnel; manage work assignments, coverage, performance expectations, training, and accountability.
    • Conduct daily production-control meetings and participate in floor huddles to communicate schedule priorities, staffing needs, material shortages, quality holds, equipment constraints, and required recovery actions.
    • Maintain an active shop-floor presence, verify actual production status, remove coordination barriers, and escalate issues that cannot be resolved at the operating level.
    • Create and maintain standard work, procedures, training materials, cross-training plans, and escalation paths that improve consistency and decision speed across shifts.
Scheduling & Manufacturing Execution
  • Translate the master production schedule, customer demand, and project milestones into executable daily and weekly priorities for fabrication, welding, mechanical assembly, structural assembly, electrical integration, and manufacturing support operations.
  • Sequence and release work orders based on material availability, labor capacity, equipment readiness, tooling, engineering documentation, quality requirements, and downstream dependencies.
  • Monitor schedule attainment, work-in-process, labor loading, throughput, queue time, and completion dates; initiate recovery actions when actual performance deviates from plan.
  • Coordinate schedule changes and priority shifts with Production, Planning, Materials, Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, Maintenance, Warehouse, and Operations before communicating updated direction to the floor.
  • Maintain clear visibility to production constraints, aging work orders, late operations, and customer-delivery risks through daily management routines and documented action tracking.
Capacity, Labor & Constraint Management
  • Evaluate short-term labor, work-center, machine, tooling, floor-space, and shift-capacity requirements against scheduled demand and recommend load balancing, overtime, alternate routing, or resequencing actions.
  • Partner with Operations leaders to align staffing and skill coverage with daily priorities while protecting safety, quality, and critical customer commitments.
  • Identify production bottlenecks and flow disruptions through floor observation and data analysis; coordinate cross-functional containment and corrective actions.
  • Work with Maintenance and Manufacturing Engineering to incorporate planned downtime, equipment availability, process changes, and new-product requirements into executable schedules.
Material Readiness & Work-Order Control
  • Partner with Materials Planning, Procurement, Warehouse, and Production to confirm material readiness, resolve shortages, prioritize kits, and prevent avoidable line stoppages.
  • Validate that work orders contain accurate bills of material, routings, quantities, dates, revisions, and required documentation before work begins; coordinate corrections with the appropriate owner.
  • Monitor material issues, substitutions, nonconforming material, inventory discrepancies, and quality holds that affect production flow, ensuring impacts and recovery dates are visible.
  • Promote disciplined work-order transactions, material consumption, labor reporting, operation completions, and status updates so ERP/MRP data accurately reflects shop-floor conditions.
Safety, Quality & Customer Delivery
  • Reinforce GTI safety requirements in all scheduling and execution decisions; never advance schedule or throughput at the expense of safe work practices.
  • Coordinate with Quality to protect inspection points, engineering specifications, traceability, and controlled documentation while minimizing defects, scrap, rework, and disruption to flow.
  • Support incident, defect, schedule-miss, and delivery-risk investigations using Root Cause & Corrective Action methods; track countermeasures through verification of effectiveness.
  • Escalate risks to customer milestones with concise impact assessments, owners, recovery actions, and revised completion forecasts.
ERP/MRP, Analytics & KPI Reporting
  • Maintain production-control accuracy and discipline within ERP/MRP and applicable manufacturing execution systems, including work-order status, schedule dates, priorities, quantities, routings, and completion reporting.
  • Develop and report KPIs such as schedule attainment, on-time completion, work-order aging, throughput, work-in-process, labor utilization, shortage impact, cycle time, and on-time delivery.
  • Use advanced Microsoft Excel and available Power BI or Tableau dashboards to analyze performance, identify trends, prioritize action, and communicate risk to leadership.
  • Support data extraction, validation, and reporting improvements; use SQL where available to strengthen operational visibility and reduce manual reporting.
Lean Manufacturing & Continuous Improvement
  • Apply Lean Manufacturing principles including standard work, visual management, 5S, daily accountability, flow, pull, and waste elimination to improve production-control execution.
  • Lead or support continuous-improvement activities focused on schedule stability, work-order flow, material readiness, transaction accuracy, constraint removal, lead time, and customer delivery.
  • Facilitate structured problem solving and RCCA for recurring schedule misses, shortages, late work orders, excess work-in-process, and execution gaps.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to standardize planning-to-execution handoffs and sustain measurable improvements across shifts and value streams.
RequirementsRequired Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Operations, Supply Chain, Engineering, Business, or a related field is preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in production control, manufacturing planning, scheduling, production coordination, or manufacturing operations, including 2+ years of leadership or supervisory responsibility.
  • Experience in contract manufacturing, engineered-to-order, or complex industrial manufacturing with exposure to fabrication, welding, assembly, systems integration, or similar operations.
  • Working knowledge of production scheduling, capacity planning, work-order control, materials management, inventory dependencies, and manufacturing workflows.
  • Hands-on experience using ERP/MRP systems to manage production orders, dates, priorities, routings, materials, and execution status; SAP experience is preferred.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel capability and demonstrated ability to analyze production data, maintain action-oriented reports, and communicate operating priorities clearly.
  • Strong floor leadership, coaching, communication, and problem-solving skills with the ability to coordinate effectively across shifts and functions.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience supporting modular data centers, battery energy storage systems, electrical enclosures, switchgear, power-distribution equipment, industrial equipment, energy infrastructure, or other engineered-to-order products.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, 5S, visual management, standard work, Kaizen, and Root Cause & Corrective Action.
  • Experience with high-mix/high-volume manufacturing, finite-capacity scheduling, clear-to-build processes, and complex multi-level bills of material.
  • Experience using Power BI or Tableau for operational dashboards; working knowledge of SQL for data extraction or reporting is a plus.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing execution systems, ISO 9001 quality systems, APICS principles, or related production and supply chain certifications.
