Location: Oak Ridge, Tennessee - Department of Energy

Type: Non-Exempt

Work Schedule: Full-time, Day Shift

Compensation: $28.06 - $28.06 per hour

Tessera is seeking a hard-working and dedicated General Maintenance Worker with a positive attitude.

Typical duties include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for a variety of tasks, which may include applying touch-up paint, painting structures or buildings, replacing windows, changing door fixtures, and repairing or replacing paneling.

  • Responsible for assisting skilled workers in performing various electrical, carpentry, plumbing, or masonry work.

  • Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of buildings, grounds, and equipment.

  • Must be able to operate power tools such as circular saws, miter saws, reciprocating saws, hand drills, impact drills, hand saws, routers, chain saws, etc., in a safe manner.

  • Must be able to operate a forklift to move materials.

  • Must be able to operate a vehicle with a trailer attached.

  • Communicate and interact directly with the customer, informing the customer of unexpected or additional repairs and determining customer needs.

  • Respond to customer inquiries and complaints.

  • Ensure completed work meets quality control standards.

  • Make difficult diagnoses and suggest solutions and repairs to the customer.

  • Communicate with the scheduler to update the status of repairs and estimate completion dates.

  • Remove snow and ice to maintain clear and safe sidewalks (~800 feet), two-way roadways (~1200 feet), parking areas (~200 vehicles), emergency exits, and fire hydrants. Roadways and walkways shall be treated as needed to ensure safety.

  • Pick-up and dispose of trash, debris, cigarette butts, and litter including around all trash dumpsters, loading docks, and patios daily.

  • Responsible for policing all range facility for debris. This includes sorting and removal of all expended small arms brass casings after live fire operations.

  • Provide services required to protect health, supplies, grounds, and real property with regard to control of insects, rodents, and other pests.

  • Maintain professionalism in both appearance and demeanor.

Qualifications:

  • Five (5) years of facilities maintenance experience preferred.

  • Valid forklift certification or the ability to obtain one required.

  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods of time, occasionally in all weather conditions.

Physical Requirements:

Employees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance. The physical demands of this position may be reasonably accommodated for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions on a case-by-case basis.

  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.

  • May be required to reach, kneel, walk, stand, and use repetitive motion for several hours at a time based on position duties.

  • Work may require repetitive motion, reaching, lifting, kneeling, and walking. Standing or sitting for several hours at a time, climbing in and out of a vehicle, and up and down stairs may also be required.

  • Must have the perseverance to work effectively under pressure for extended periods of time.

  • A valid state driver's license is required with the ability to obtain and maintain coverage by Tessera's insurance.
