Job description

Job Title:Safety & Security Officer - Lead (Public Safety Rank - Sergeant) - Clifton Springs Hospital, Security (Full-Time, Varying - 24-hour Rotation)
Department: Security
Location:Clifton Springs Hospital - 2 Coulter Road, Clifton Springs, NY 14432
Hours Per Week:40
Schedule:Varying - 24-hour rotation

SUMMARY:

The role supports the Supervisor in overseeing shift operations and ensuring high performance across the security team. In addition to performing core officer responsibilities, the Lead acts as a shift leader-providing guidance on policy enforcement, incident management, training, and staff development. This role maintains a strong command presence, monitors high-risk patient situations, documents events thoroughly, and assumes supervisory responsibilities when needed. The role promotes procedural consistency and contributes to a culture of safety and accountability.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Shift Support & Supervision: Assist the Supervisor in overseeing shift operations, ensuring staff performance, professional conduct, and completion of assigned duties.

  • Security & Safety Response: Maintain a visible command presence, patrol buildings and grounds, and respond to routine and emergency incidents to protect patients, staff, visitors, and property.

  • Patient Monitoring & Support: Monitor psychiatric patients as directed by medical staff and manage patient property in accordance with departmental procedures.

  • Reporting & Compliance: Complete accurate reports, logs, and documentation; recommend procedural improvements; and enforce departmental and hospital policies.

  • Leadership Coverage: Perform the duties of shift supervisor or line officer when needed, advise on employee performance, and ensure proper equipment usage and readiness.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • 3 years of experience in Law Enforcement, Corrections, Military, or Security

  • NYS Security Guard License

  • Valid NYS Driver's License

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong interest in safety and security, public safety, or law enforcement.

  • Excellent communication skills and a customer-focused attitude.

  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor in high-stress or emergency situations.

  • Demonstrated interest in security, safety, or law enforcement is preferred.

  • Ability to guide and motivate team members while setting a professional example.

  • Maintains honesty and confidentiality; upholds departmental standards in all actions and reports.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

M - Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.
