Contract Rf Design Engineer information

What does a Contract RF Design Engineer do?

A Contract RF Design Engineer is a specialist hired on a temporary or project basis to design, develop, and optimize radio frequency (RF) circuits and systems. Their work typically involves tasks such as creating schematics, simulating RF performance, testing prototypes, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. They may work in industries like telecommunications, aerospace, defense, or consumer electronics, often collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver solutions that meet technical and regulatory requirements. Because they are contractors, their roles may be project-specific and vary in duration, focusing on providing expertise for particular phases of product development.

What is the difference between Contract Rf Design Engineer vs RF Systems Engineer?

AspectContract Rf Design EngineerRF Systems Engineer
CredentialsBachelor's in Electrical Engineering, RF certificationsBachelor's or higher in Electrical Engineering, RF certifications
Work EnvironmentProject-based, contract roles in labs or officesFull-time, ongoing roles in R&D or product development
Industry UsageCommon in telecommunications, defense, aerospaceUsed across similar industries, often in system-level design

Contract Rf Design Engineers focus on designing RF components and circuits on a temporary basis, often for specific projects. RF Systems Engineers work on integrating RF components into complete systems, typically in permanent roles. Both roles require similar technical skills and certifications but differ mainly in employment type and scope of responsibilities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Contract RF Design Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Contract RF Design Engineer, you need a strong background in electrical engineering, signal processing, and RF circuit design, often supported by a relevant degree. Proficiency with simulation tools like ADS, HFSS, or CST, as well as experience with spectrum analyzers and network analyzers, is typically required. Excellent problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help engineers collaborate with teams and resolve complex technical challenges. These skills and qualifications are essential to ensure reliable, high-performance RF systems that meet project specifications and timelines.

What are some common challenges faced by Contract RF Design Engineers when working with clients on short-term projects?

Contract RF Design Engineers often encounter challenges such as quickly adapting to different clients' processes, integrating with new teams, and understanding legacy design constraints in a limited timeframe. Additionally, they may need to troubleshoot complex RF issues with incomplete documentation or rapidly evolving project requirements. Strong communication and adaptability are essential, as contract roles frequently require efficient collaboration with cross-functional teams to meet tight deadlines and deliver high-quality solutions.

Job description

Felsburg Holt & Ullevig is looking to hire a full-time transportation design engineer in our Greenwood Village Office. mid-level engineer who wants a rewarding career in the transportation engineering field. The candidate for this engineering position will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of transportation-related design projects and will work for a variety of project managers.

Primary duties for this mid-level engineer position, in our Mountain West Civil Group, are focused on transportation design and plan production for multimodal transportation corridor, roadway, highway/interchange, and multi-use trail projects for private, state, and municipal clients. Career emphasis will be focused on application of transportation modeling software for design projects, leading/managing roadway design for small to mid-size projects, coordination of roadway design with other design disciplines, mentoring junior engineers, and overseeing the compilation of construction contract documents for overall projects. Longer-term career emphasis will include leading/managing roadway design for larger projects, providing guidance/training to junior engineers in roadway modeling and other design software.

Essential duties and responsibilities will include the following, under supervision of a project manager for transportation planning and design projects:

  • Develop trail/roadway/intersection/interchange design criteria for both final design as well as construction phasing. Use appropriate federal, state, or municipal standards in development of the criteria.
  • Complete conceptual design layouts considering both horizontal and vertical design for trails, roadways, highways, intersections, interchanges, etc.
  • Develop conceptual design graphics and exhibits to be used in the planning documentation.
  • Provide input for environmental study limits, and area of potential effect for historic resources.
  • Assist the project manager in determining data collection limits for survey, subsurface utility engineering (SUE), and geotechnical subsurface investigation for pavement and embankment design. Assist the project manager in coordinating the data collection efforts.
  • As primary transportation design modeler, use computer aided design engineering software (Civil3D and/or MicroStation/InRoads & OpenRoads) for design and modeling of transportation design projects.
  • As roadway design lead, coordinate roadway design elements with other design disciplines and required environmental resource avoidance or mitigation. This may require coordination with subconsultants.
  • As roadway design lead, oversee the work of junior engineers and designers in the production of roadway construction contract documents. Also oversee the compilation of overall plan set for construction contract documents.
  • As required, assist the project manager with writing project special provisions and assembling specification packages.
  • Maintain organized electronic records of roadway related action items, design decisions, variances, and design related project correspondence.
  • In coordination with other design specialties, determine required right-of-way acquisition, permanent easements, and temporary construction easements.
  • Oversee roadway quantity calculations by junior engineers or designers.
  • Develop overall project opinion of probable costs using current construction cost data with input from other design specialties.
  • Assist the project manager in preparation for project related meetings including agendas and exhibits, plus documentation of meetings via meeting minutes.
  • Assist the project or quality control managers with adhering to FHUโ€™s Total Quality Management Program for roadway design.
  • Assist the project manager in meeting project schedules and staying within budget for roadway design tasks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Civil Engineering Degree from an accredited four-year college or university is required.
  • 5 to 10 years of transportation engineering experience including but not limited to roadway, highway, interchange, trail and/or transit design engineering.
  • Professional engineer licensed in the State of Colorado. If licensed in another state will be required to obtain a CO PE license within six months after start date.
  • Modeling, design, and plan production experience with Civil3D and/or MicroStation/InRoads/Open Roads.
  • Experience in development of roadway plans, specifications, and opinions of probable costs.
  • Ability to multi-task several projects at once time while staying on budget and on schedule.
  • Ability to prepare technical reports and business correspondence with Microsoft Office applications.
