Schedule: Sunday night to Friday morning 10p to 6am
2 nd or 3rd weekend will be OT weekend support

Job Description:
About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Engineer to support continuous operations within Detroit Axles manufacturing. This role acts as a key technical resource for both maintenance and production teams, helping troubleshoot complex equipment issues, improve reliability, and drive continuous improvement across multiple assembly and machining operations.
You'll work cross-functionally with skilled trades, supervisors, and OEM partners to ensure optimal equipment performance across gearset machining, NFD assembly, HDT assembly, advanced 6x4 assembly, M1 front assembly, and drop press/line operations.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide plant floor support for reactive and preventive maintenance activities
  • Serve as 2nd-level escalation for production equipment downtime and critical failures
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (maintenance, production, skilled trades) to resolve technical issues
  • Develop and maintain equipment documentation (schematics, spare parts, maintenance plans)
  • Manage spare parts inventory and external vendor/OEM support
  • Analyze maintenance KPIs to identify trends and drive improvements
  • Act as a technical coach to maintenance personnel on process standards and best practices
  • Manage and optimize maintenance activities within a CMMS system
  • Lead capital and retrofit projects (budget, timeline, execution)
  • Support new production line launches and ensure operational readiness
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and engineering standards
  • Drive continuous process improvement (CPI) initiatives
  • Create and manage work orders and purchase requisitions

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment

Preferred Qualifications
  • 5-7 years of experience in maintenance, manufacturing, or facilities engineering
  • 2+ years of leadership or supervisory experience
  • Experience with CMMS systems
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and materials
  • Experience supporting automotive or heavy manufacturing equipment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience with AutoCAD or similar tools
