Job Title: Okta Engineer
Location: Chicago Downtown, IL (Onsite)
Job Type: Contract (W2 or C2C)
Duration: 6-12 Months (with possible extension)
Job Description:
We are seeking a highly experienced Okta Engineer to join our Identity and Access Management (IAM) team. The ideal candidate will play a key role in the design, deployment, integration, and support of Okta identity solutions across the enterprise. You will work closely with security, infrastructure, and application teams to manage and improve identity federation, Single Sign-On (SSO), Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), and lifecycle management.
This is a 100% onsite role in Chicago Downtown, IL.
Responsibilities:
  • Implement and manage Okta Identity Cloud including SSO, MFA, Universal Directory, Lifecycle Management, and API access management.
  • Integrate Okta with cloud and on-premise applications for secure authentication and authorization.
  • Create and manage SAML, OIDC, and SCIM integrations for third-party and internal applications.
  • Automate user provisioning/deprovisioning workflows using Okta Workflows, SCIM, and APIs.
  • Implement policies for adaptive MFA, conditional access, and user behavior analytics.
  • Troubleshoot Okta-related issues, including login failures, app integrations, and provisioning errors.
  • Support audits and compliance requirements related to identity and access controls.
  • Collaborate with IT and InfoSec teams to ensure consistent and secure identity governance.
  • Document architecture, processes, configurations, and provide training to relevant stakeholders.
Required Skills:
  • Overall IT Experience: 9+ Years
  • 5+ years of experience in IAM with at least 3+ years working specifically on Okta Identity Cloud.
  • Strong knowledge of SSO, MFA, SAML 2.0, OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, and SCIM.
  • Experience with Okta Lifecycle Management, including automated provisioning and deprovisioning.
  • Proficient with Okta Workflows and API-based automation.
  • Hands-on experience with Active Directory, LDAP, Azure AD, and other identity stores.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and SaaS security integration.
  • Experience with scripting (PowerShell, Python, or similar) for automation and reporting.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Okta Certified Professional or Administrator certification.
  • Experience integrating Okta with HR systems, ITSM platforms, and enterprise SaaS products.
  • Familiarity with Zero Trust architecture and identity security best practices.
  • Background in security audits, governance, and compliance frameworks (SOX, NIST, etc.).
