Contract Programmer Side information

What is a contract programmer side?

Contract programmer side jobs are freelance or part-time programming roles that individuals take on in addition to their primary employment. These jobs involve working on a contract basis, often for short-term projects or specific tasks, and offer flexibility in hours and workload. Many programmers pursue such side gigs to earn extra income, gain experience with new technologies, or expand their professional network. Typical responsibilities might include writing code, debugging software, or developing applications for clients. These roles can be remote, on-site, or a mix of both depending on the employer's needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a contract programmer side?

To thrive as a Contract Programmer, you need strong proficiency in programming languages (such as Python, Java, or C#), software development methodologies, and a relevant degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with code repositories (like Git), project management tools, and sometimes certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Developer Associate or AWS Certified Developer are valuable. Excellent problem-solving, time management, and clear communication skills help you stand out in delivering client-driven solutions. These competencies enable contract programmers to efficiently deliver high-quality software on time while meeting client expectations and adapting to varied project requirements.

What are some common challenges contract programmers face when working on the client side, and how can they overcome them?

Contract programmers working on the client side often encounter challenges such as adapting quickly to new codebases, aligning with the client's project management tools, and maintaining clear communication with remote teams. To overcome these, it's helpful to invest time in understanding the existing architecture early on, actively participate in team meetings, and frequently check in with project stakeholders to clarify requirements. Building strong documentation habits and leveraging collaboration tools can also ease integration and ensure project milestones are met efficiently.

Job description

We're an independent European digital product studio with a strong track record of delivering market-defining strategies and products for enterprises and governments. With about 200 talented people across three countries, premium AI capabilities and a diverse portfolio of international clients, we define, design and ship high-quality digital products, strategies and software. From global cloud-based platforms and large-scale apps to medical devices, banking software and augmented reality experiences. In a nutshell: if it lives and breathes digital, itโ€™s what we do best.

Become a part of our team

At In The Pocket, you join a multidisciplinary team of designers, engineers, strategists and data specialists who care about the work as much as the people they work with. We work in small, autonomous teams that stay close to our clients and their users, and we give everyone the space to take ownership, speak up and grow. Youโ€™ll learn from colleagues across our studios, ship products that reach thousands or even millions of people and help shape what digital can do for leading organisations in Europe.

What youโ€™ll do

We are looking for a Senior Angular Front-End Engineer with a strong affinity for AI. As the ideal candidate you have handsโ€‘on experience building and deploying resilient web applications. You have a solid understanding of how the web works and know the difference between progressive enhancement and graceful degradation. This role requires someone who can architect scalable web solutions while integrating intelligent features powered by machine learning or AI models.

  • Prototype and develop scalable and reliable software solutions
  • Enforce quality through testโ€‘driven development
  • Ensure maintainability by documenting code and solution
  • Act as a mentor for colleagues and help sharing knowledge
  • Translate business requirements in a robust, performant and secure technical solution.
  • Effectively integrate AI tools (e.g., Claude, Cursor) into the development workflow to optimise code writing, code reviews, and overall productivity.
Who you are
  • You love building intuitive interfaces with solid UX.
  • You understand the advantages of server side rendering beyond SEO.
  • You have a keen eye for building accessible applications following the WCAG guidelines.
  • The OWASP top 10 sounds familiar to you and you use it to confidently build secure applications.
  • You know how to build a robust and maintainable application that survives the test of time through extensive automated testing.
  • You enjoy exploring new technologies and frameworks through pet projects or research.
  • You have an open mindset: critical eye for quality, curious, eager to learn and not afraid to ask questions.
  • You are a spock for other engineers.
  • Not afraid to take the lead when needed.
  • Proficient in modern front-end development: HTML, CSS and componentโ€‘based frameworks such as Angular.
  • Solid instinct for software architecture and a strong grasp of software engineering best practices: Git, unit testing, code quality, CI/CD, documentation, dependency/version management, and monitoring.
  • Familiar with backโ€‘end fundamentals: knowing the difference between a SQL & NoSQL database and understanding how OAuth & JWT tokens can provide a secure authentication experience.
  • You understand common API practices. You know how to utilise OpenAPI or GraphQL specifications to build a typesafe frontend application.
  • Experience with Docker and an interest in cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Able to debug effectively using logs, stack traces, and error messages.
  • Comfortable with the agility and pace of a growing or young company.
  • Collaborative, proactive, and fluent in English.
  • Bachelorโ€™s in Informatics or Masterโ€™s in Computer Science (or equivalent experience).
  • You embrace AI in your dayโ€‘toโ€‘day development, but stay critical about where it genuinely improves the quality of your output.
What we offer

Joining In The Pocket means becoming part of a team that shapes the future of our clientsโ€™ businesses across Europe. Hereโ€™s what you can look forward to:

  • Youโ€™ll start with a permanent contract in a role that comes with responsibility and the opportunity to make a real impact from day one.
  • We offer a competitive salary that reflects your experience and the value you bring.
  • Our benefits package has you covered with hospitalisation and group insurance, meal vouchers, a phone subscription, and more.
  • Youโ€™ll have a mobility budget that lets you decide how to get around, your way.
  • Life at In The Pocket isnโ€™t just about work, we host team events throughout the year to celebrate, connect, and have fun together.
  • Learning never stops here, so after six months, youโ€™ll receive a dedicated learning and development budget to keep growing your skills and exploring new horizons.
