A Contract Product Engineer is a professional who is hired on a temporary or project basis to design, develop, and improve products for a company. They typically work with cross-functional teams to take products from concept to production, addressing technical challenges and ensuring quality standards. Unlike full-time employees, contract product engineers may work for multiple companies or on specific projects, offering specialized expertise as needed. Their responsibilities often include prototyping, testing, and making design recommendations to optimize product performance and manufacturability.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a contract product engineer?

To thrive as a Contract Product Engineer, you need a solid background in engineering principles, product design, and manufacturing processes, typically supported by a relevant engineering degree. Familiarity with CAD software, prototyping tools, and industry-specific standards or certifications is often required. These skills ensure the successful development and delivery of products that meet contractual specifications, timelines, and quality standards.

Contract product engineers often face challenges such as quickly adapting to new teams, understanding diverse product requirements, and managing tight project deadlines. Job description

Attio is the CRM built for the AI era. Designed for the most ambitious go-to-market teams, it gives companies the power to understand every customer, automate at scale, and build their go-to-market motion exactly as they need. We've raised $116M from some of the world's best investors: GV (Google Ventures), Redpoint, Balderton, Point Nine, and 01A.

We hire builders who thrive on complex technical challenges, hold themselves to a high bar, and genuinely care about delighting the people who use what they build. The team here brings sharp judgement, real craft, and the drive to do exceptional work. We're obsessed about the details and energized by the frontier.

If you want to do the best work of your career, this is the right place.

About the role

Our Engineering team tackles the toughest challenges, so our users never have to. Real-time infrastructure, AI-native architecture, and a frontend that feels effortless - all powered by a team that moves fast, thinks rigorously, and holds an exceptionally high bar for quality.

We’re looking for a Senior Product Engineer who takes pride in pushing boundaries, obsesses over details, and wants to help reinvent how millions of people work.

What you’ll do
  • Use your strong expertise in TypeScript/Node.js/GCP to move the company and product forward

  • Lead projects end-to-end to solve real customer problems

  • Architect the systems which power new features to support our high standards of performance, reliability, security and scale, and re-architect existing systems as their scaling demands grow

  • Design REST API contracts for both internal and external consumers that are easy to work with

  • Represent Attio’s Product & Engineering values both internally and externally

What you’ll bring
  • Experience designing scalable, reliable, secure backend systems

  • Excellent knowledge of modern Cloud Native systems architecture

  • Expertise with Node.js and TypeScript

  • A track record of ownership and product delivery

  • A proactive, self-motivated problem solving attitude, with a strong passion for advancing and innovating in distributed systems

  • The ability to communicate technical ideas to the wider team and influence stakeholders across Engineering, Product and Design

Nice to have:

  • Experience contributing to, or participating in open source projects

  • An interest or experience in mentoring other members of the team

  • Experience working with data-rich backend applications, or processing large volumes of real-time data

  • A love for experimenting with new ideas, tools and techniques, and exploring new technologies

What we offer
  • Equity in an early-stage tech company on an incredible trajectory

  • 25 days holiday plus local public holidays

  • Team off-site in fun places! (We've been to Barcelona, Lisbon, Malta, and Split so far)
