Job description

Our client, a large oil and gas company, has an immediate opening for a Contract Formation Specialist based out of their downtown Calgary location. As a part of the Oilsands Major Projects team, this position willsupport the development, negotiation and execution of commercial agreements. This role plays a critical part in ensuring contracts are structured effectively, risks are identified and mitigated and agreements align with organizational and regulatory requirements. This is a contract office based position on a 5/2 schedule.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the end-to-end tendering process, including solicitation development, bidder clarifications, evaluation, negotiations, exception management, and contract award and formation
Partner with internal stakeholders (Supply Chain, Engineering, Legal, Finance, and Operations) to define scope, commercial structures, and contract terms
Drive and support commercial negotiations, ensuring outcomes align with corporate policies, risk tolerance, and business objectives
Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate contractual and commercial risks throughout the contracting lifecycle
Ensure all contracts comply with internal governance frameworks, legal requirements, and applicable regulatory standards
Maintain accurate, auditable, and well-organized contract documentation within contract management systems
Develop, standardize, and continuously improve contract templates, playbooks, and best practices
Provide expert guidance and mentorship to internal teams on contract formation strategy, processes, and compliance requirements
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Legal Studies, or a related field
10+ years of experience in contract formation, procurement, or commercial contracting
Strong understanding of contract law principles and commercial terms
Experience in negotiation and stakeholder management
Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills
Strong communication and writing skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in energy, oil & gas, or large-scale industrial environments
Professional certifications (e.g., SCMP, CPSM, or Legal/Contract Management certifications)
Familiarity with ERP or contract lifecycle management systems (e.g., Ivalua, SAP, Ariba, or similar)
