We are seeking a Senior Software Configuration/Release Engineer to join our team.

This role will involve designing, automating, and maintaining cloud configuration, release, and infrastructure management processes across AWS environments. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in AWS cloud infrastructure, Terraform (IaC), DevOps automation, security, backup and patching, and a passion for building secure, scalable, and highly available cloud platforms.

Job Description

The Senior Software Configuration/Release Engineer is responsible for automating and maintaining cloud configuration and infrastructure processes across enterprise AWS environments. As a Senior Software Configuration/Release Engineer, you will ensure cloud platforms are secure, compliant, resilient, and well-governed through automation, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and operational best practices.

In this Senior Software Configuration/Release Engineer role, you will work closely with DevOps, Security, and Infrastructure teams to support stable, reliable, and mission-critical services. The Senior Software Configuration/Release Engineer will lead efforts related to configuration management, release engineering, backup and patch automation, and certificate governance while maintaining detailed documentation and standards. This Senior Software Configuration/Release Engineer position plays a critical role in supporting statewide services through reliable cloud operations.


Key ResponsibilitiesCloud Configuration & Infrastructure Automation
  • Develop, implement, and maintain AWS configuration management processes, policies, and standards (7+ years)

  • Build, deploy, and enhance Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using Terraform for automated provisioning and lifecycle management of AWS resources such as EC2, S3, RDS, IAM, and ACM (3+ years)

  • Manage and optimize Dev, Test, Stage, and Production environments ensuring consistency, security, and compliance (7+ years)

Release Engineering & AWS DevOps
  • Support automation pipelines using AWS Code Suite (CodeCommit, CodeBuild, CodeDeploy, CodePipeline) (7+ years)

  • Partner with DevOps teams to support releases, deployments, rollbacks, configuration updates, and environment readiness (7+ years)

Backup, Patching & Compliance
  • Design and maintain automated AWS backup solutions to ensure resiliency and compliance with retention policies (7+ years)

  • Implement and manage automated patching workflows for cloud infrastructure (7+ years)

  • Conduct configuration, patching, backup, and certificate compliance audits and implement improvements (7+ years)

Security & Certificate Management
  • Manage installation, renewal, rotation, and validation of SSL/TLS certificates across AWS services (7+ years)

  • Ensure secure communications and compliance with state and federal security requirements (7+ years)

Documentation, Governance & Training
  • Maintain accurate documentation of configuration baselines, IaC standards, Terraform modules, and environment changes (3+ years)

  • Provide training and guidance on Terraform, AWS best practices, backup strategies, patch automation, and certificate management (3+ years)


Core Skills & Experience
  • 8+ years of configuration management and cloud infrastructure experience

  • Strong hands-on expertise with AWS services: EC2, S3, RDS, IAM, ACM

  • Proficiency in Terraform and IaC methodologies

  • 7+ years supporting DevOps, Security, and Infrastructure teams in enterprise environments

  • Scripting experience using Python, Bash, or PowerShell (Preferred)

  • Experience with compliance-driven or regulated environments (Preferred)

  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and documentation skills


Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field

  • Equivalent professional experience, training, or certifications may be considered
