Job description

SWJ Technology specializes in providing engineering, planning, and project management services across various industries. We are currently seeking a PLC Specialist for a client in the automotive industry, specializing in car manufacturing. This role is a contractor position based in Vance, AL that requires onsite presence.

PURPOSE

Under general supervision, this position supports with automation controls, technical expertise foprogramming, and hardware topics..

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Support planning, engineering, and commissioning of equipment controls through final buyoffs of equipment in the shops, together with suppliers and production teams.
  • Assist suppliers with software and hardware concept development including troubleshooting.
  • Advise suppliers on project requirements and specifications.
  • Lead software progress and implementation meetings with suppliers.
  • Conduct and oversee equipment safety checks, hardware checks and schematic checks.
  • Support the team with a focus on software topics and program optimization.
  • Conduct and coordinate software checks (Programmable Logic Controllers and Visualizations).
  • Support schedule tracking and reporting to project team.
  • Investigate and make improvements with the goal of guaranteeing system availability for the respective areas.
  • Organize internal and external meetings to clarify defined problems and report findings to management and/or involved business partners.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support customer and business demands.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in IT/Information Systems, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field of study OR the equivalent combination of education and/or years of relevant working experience.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of relevant professional experience in IT Operations or Controls Engineering, preferably within an Automotive/Manufacturing environment.
REQUIRED SKILLS
  • PLC programming
  • Hands‑on experience with Siemens PLCs and Siemens TIA Portal (primarily troubleshooting; full ground‑up programming not required)
PREFERRED SKILLS
  • INTEGRA PLC
  • Mercedes‑Benz
  • Conveyor equipment
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Work is normally performed in an office, laboratory, manufacturing floor, or machine shop setting where physical work includes, but is not limited to sitting, standing, reaching, kneeling, bending, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
  • Must be able to understand and comply with all relevant safety practices.
FLSA STATUS/WORKING SCHEDULE
  • Location: Vance, AL 100% onsite
  • Schedule: Full Time/, 40 hours per week, weekend as required
  • Assignment: Start: ASAP
