Job Summary: The Payroll Compliance Supervisor is responsible for leading payroll compliance operations, including union reporting, certified payroll, garnishments, and employment verifications. This position ensures compliance with federal, state, and contractual requirements while managing a high-performing team and partnering across the organization to support accurate and efficient payroll processes.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Manage the workflow to ensure accuracy and that all weekly payroll and union processing deadlines are met

  • Oversight of Payroll Compliance team responsible for garnishments, child support, verification of employment, pay card administration, iPay administration, state new hire reporting, certified payroll reporting, and union reporting

  • Set up and maintain union fringe and benefits deductions as outlined in contracts

  • Monitor Workday tasks for timely completion for weekly payroll processing

  • Train current staff and onboarding of new employees

  • Provide daily support as well as back-up coverage for department vacancies or work overloads

  • Assist direct reports with handling issues and ability to escalate accordingly

  • Perform general ledger account reconciliations

  • Ensure that department procedures are up to date and accurate

  • Maintain knowledge of union and utility contracts to ensure compliance

  • Assist Payroll Manager by performing quality assurance for all processes

  • Assist with Audits or Legal inquiries as needed

  • Support, actively participate and act in accordance with Wright's culture of safety and employee ownership

  • Comply and maintain knowledge of and follow all company policies and procedures

  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance at work and meetings

  • Handle multiple assignments and special projects and other duties as assigned

Supervisory Duties:

  • Supervise the daily operation of the Payroll Compliance team for Wright's family of companies

  • Assess performance and provide feedback for direct reports. Counsel and discipline as needed

  • Assist direct reports daily, handling issues that arise and ability to escalate accordingly

Knowledge, Skills & Ability Requirements:

  • Working knowledge of the company's policies and procedures

  • Must be able to communicate and work effectively with internal departments such as Payroll, Contracts, HR, Benefits, IT, Workday HRIS, Accounting, and Operations

  • Must be able to communicate and work effectively with external customers such as states, unions, and third-party agencies

  • Ability to make independent decisions and resolve issues; ability to handle sensitive personnel matters in a confidential fashion

  • Knowledge of all confidentiality requirements regarding employee records

  • Must have strong knowledge of payroll, unions, certified payroll, and financial concepts.

  • Maintain knowledge of federal and state compliance

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Must exhibit exceptional customer service skills, requiring professional tact, discretion, and self-expression when dealing with personnel inside and outside the organization

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products is required

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Strong organizational skills and tendencies; the ability to work on multiple tasks and projects concurrently; extremely detail oriented

  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining company standards

  • Ability to read, write and speak English sufficient to perform job duties and to interact and communicate with employees and vendors

Education, Certification & Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years of payroll and union experience is required

Other Preferred Requirements:

  • B.S or B.A in Accounting is preferred

  • Minimum of 2-3 years of supervisor experience is preferred

  • Workday HRIS with focus on Payroll and Time Tracking is preferred
