Contract Netflix Writers and Contract TV Writers share similar credentials, work environments, and industry usage. The main difference lies in the employer: Netflix Writers work specifically for Netflix's original content, often with a focus on streaming media, while TV Writers may work for various networks or platforms. Both roles require strong writing skills and industry experience, but their projects and production settings differ based on the employer.

Can I really get paid for watching Netflix?

A Contract Netflix Writer is paid for creating content or scripts, not for watching Netflix. While some remote jobs involve reviewing or analyzing content, simply watching shows does not typically generate income unless part of a specific paid role or project. Most paid positions require skills such as writing, editing, or content analysis, and are based on contractual agreements or employment terms.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Contract Netflix Writer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Contract Netflix Writer, you need strong storytelling abilities, scriptwriting expertise, and a portfolio of original work, often supported by a background in screenwriting or related fields. Familiarity with industry-standard screenwriting software like Final Draft and understanding of streaming platform content guidelines are typically required. Creativity, collaboration, adaptability, and the ability to accept and implement feedback are crucial soft skills for success in this role. These skills and qualities are essential for creating compelling scripts that resonate with diverse audiences and align with Netflix’s content strategy.

What does a Contract Netflix Writer do?

A Contract Netflix Writer is a professional hired on a contractual basis to create, develop, or adapt scripts and screenplays for Netflix original content, such as TV series, movies, or documentaries. They may be responsible for developing storylines, writing dialogue, and collaborating with producers, directors, and other writers throughout the production process. Contract writers usually work on specific projects for a set period rather than as permanent employees, often contributing to the unique voice and creative vision of Netflix's programming. Their work is crucial in shaping the narratives that reach global audiences on the streaming platform.

Will Netflix pay you $45 an hour to watch movies?

A Contract Netflix Writer is typically paid per project or assignment, and such roles do not usually pay $45 an hour solely for watching movies. Writers are compensated for creating content, scripts, or reviews, and pay rates vary based on experience and scope of work. Watching movies alone is not a standard part of this job's compensation structure.

How does a contract Netflix writer typically collaborate with producers and showrunners during a project?

As a contract Netflix writer, you will frequently work alongside producers and showrunners to develop scripts that align with the show's vision and streaming platform standards. Collaboration often involves participating in writer’s rooms (either in-person or virtually), pitching ideas, revising scripts based on feedback, and attending table reads. Open communication and adaptability are key, as creative direction can shift rapidly in response to executive notes or audience trends. Building strong working relationships with the creative team not only streamlines the writing process but can also lead to future opportunities on other Netflix projects.

What Netflix job pays $700K?

High-level Netflix executives, such as senior executives or chief officers, can earn total compensation packages that reach or exceed $700,000 annually, including salary, bonuses, and stock options. Creative roles like top writers or showrunners may also earn substantial sums, especially for successful series, but executive positions typically have the highest pay at Netflix.

Job description

At Netflix, our mission is to entertain the world. Together, we are writing the next episode - pushing the boundaries of storytelling, global fandom and making the unimaginable a reality. We are a dream team obsessed with the uncomfortable excitement of discovering what happens when you merge creativity, intuition and cutting-edge technology. Come be a part of what's next.

Netflix is growing - and so is the complexity of our accounting landscape. Our Consumer Products business is scaling rapidly, bringing the Netflix brand to life through merchandise and immersive in-person experiences, including Netflix House. Our advertising business is expanding, adding layers of operational and financial complexity. And global marketing efforts are increasing in scale and creativity, introducing new problems to solve and opportunities to innovate. The infrastructure to support all of this is being built in real time, and the financial, operational, and technical challenges ahead have never been more exciting. If you want to build something rather than simply maintain it, this role is for you.

This position sits within the Core Accounting organization on the Expenditures Accounting team and owns the financial integrity of operating expenses across Sales & Marketing and Consumer Products. You will lead a talented team of senior accountants, serve as a trusted partner to some of Netflix's most forward-looking business areas, and help shape how we account for an increasingly dynamic and growing set of operations.

This role is based in either our Los Angeles or Los Gatos office and reports to the Senior Manager, Expenditures Accounting. We operate on a hybrid schedule, with inoffice days Tuesday through Thursday.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, develop, and mentor a team of senior accountants - investing in their growth paths, building a high-performance environment that is challenging, exciting, and genuinely fun, and maintaining the talent density that makes the company exceptional.

  • Own the accounting for Sales & Marketing and Consumer Products operating expenses, assets (e.g., prepaids), and liabilities (e.g., accruals), ensuring accuracy and compliance with US GAAP and internal policy.

  • Drive a timely, accurate, and increasingly frictionless close process - including review of journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, flux analyses, and management reporting - with a continuous eye toward automating and eliminating unnecessary manual work.

  • Model and champion the use of AI and automation across your team's workflows - actively leveraging tools for contract terms extraction, variance analysis, close preparation, and beyond; identifying and scaling solutions that eliminate manual effort; and partnering with Fintech teams to build durable infrastructure for your areas of ownership.

  • Review and interpret business agreements - including vendor contracts, sponsorships, and brand partnership arrangements - to determine appropriate GAAP treatment

  • Establish accounting policy and frameworks for new and growing areas, including live events, in-person consumer experiences, and advertising operations

  • Act as a proactive, solutions-oriented partner to Marketing, Consumer Products, Ads, Legal, Procurement, FP&A, and Tax teams - helping the business move faster and allocate resources wisely

  • Serve as a key point of contact for internal and external audit inquiries related to your areas of ownership.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of relevant experience in accounting and/or finance, with a bachelor's degree in a related field.

  • CPA or equivalent professional designation strongly preferred.

  • Demonstrated people leadership: you've played a key role in hiring, mentoring, and developing others, and you care about building careers, not just getting work done.

  • Proven track record of building, scaling and simplifying accounting processes, including rethinking legacy workflows to make them faster, more automated and more resilient.

  • Hands on experience with complex, judgemental accounting, including translating deals into clear, supportable GAAP conclusions

  • Exceptional communicator who builds trust and alignment across accounting and business partners and is comfortable giving and receiving direct, candid feedback.

  • Thrives in ambiguity and performs well in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment with multiple concurrent priorities

  • Strong alignment with the Netflix Culture Memo and our long-term, values-driven approach to building the business.

  • Familiarity with Workday Financials is a plus

Generally, our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $210,000.00 - $350,000.00.

Netflix provides comprehensive benefits including Health Plans, Mental Health support, a 401(k) Retirement Plan with employer match, Stock Option Program, Disability Programs, Health Savings and Flexible Spending Accounts, Family-forming benefits, and Life and Serious Injury Benefits. We also offer paid leave of absence programs. Full-time hourly employees accrue 35 days annually for paid time off to be used for vacation, holidays, and sick paid time off. Full-time salaried employees are immediately entitled to flexible time off. See more details about our Benefits here.

Netflix is a unique culture and environment. Learn more here.

Inclusion is a Netflix value and we strive to host a meaningful interview experience for all candidates. If you want an accommodation/adjustment for a disability or any other reason during the hiring process, please send a request to your recruiting partner.

We are an equal-opportunity employer and celebrate diversity, recognizing that diversity builds stronger teams. We approach diversity and inclusion seriously and thoughtfully. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, ancestry, national origin, caste, sex, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity or expression, age, disability, medical condition, pregnancy, genetic makeup, marital status, or military service.
