Glen Canyon National Recreation Area offers a stunning blend of desert landscapes, deep canyons, and the sparkling waters of Lake Powell. Towering sandstone cliffs, hidden slot canyons, and ancient rock art reveal a rich natural and cultural history. From boating and fishing to hiking and stargazing, Glen Canyon invites visitors to explore a landscape shaped by water and time, where adventure and solitude meet under vast southwestern skies.

Position Overview:
The ACE Museum Collections Member will work with Glen Canyon NRA Museum Program to support the preservation, documentation, and management of the park's museum and herbarium collections. Working alongside National Park Service museum professionals, the member will gain hands-on experience with collections care, cataloging, archival preservation, digitization, exhibit support, and museum documentation.
The member will assist with a variety of ongoing collections management projects, including herbarium digitization, database management, museum cataloging, inventory projects, environmental monitoring, archival preservation, and exhibit maintenance. This position offers valuable professional development for individuals pursuing careers in museum studies, archives, collections management, natural history collections, or cultural resource stewardship.
Schedule: This is a full-time position and members are expected to contribute up to 40hrs a week, during the regular work week.
Position Benefits
Living Allowance: The ACE Member is expected to contribute ~40 hours/week and will receive a living allowance of $850/week to offset the costs of food and incidental expenses, dispersed bi-weekly.
Housing:ACE members might be able to be accommodated in provided government housing at around $650/mo for the duration of the term. Government housing is typically a single room in a shared house, or a room in a bunk house; housing does not include Wi-Fi. Rentals costs would be the responsibility of the ACE member and will be billed monthly.
Gear Allowance: ACE members will have up to $300 to spend on eligible gear purchases. Eligible gear for this position must be approved by ACE staff prior to purchase.
Provided Training/Orientation: Members will receive position-specific training and orientation covering ACE policies and procedures, cultural resource management practices, archaeological field methods, fire archaeology, data collection protocols, and workplace safety requirements.
Qualifications
Required:
- Members must be a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident, as required by U.S. government contracts
- Willing and able to represent ACE and the partner organization in a professional, positive, and enthusiastic manner.
- Ability to be both self-directed/work alone, and be a positive, contributing member of a group.
- A valid driver's license and an insurable driving record (documentation to be provided upon request).
- Willing to undergo and must pass the required two park criminal history check
- reasonable accommodation.
- ACE Members will need to complete bi-weekly timesheets, beginning of term feedback forms, end of term evaluations and for longer terms, a mid-term evaluation.

Preferred:
- Degree in Museum Studies, archives, or related field
- Academic background or career aspirations in Museum Studies, Museum Sciences, or Archival Studies.
- At least 1 year experience with museum collections and database management
- Strong organizational, time management, attention to detail, and legible handwriting
- Proficient with Word, Excel, email, and capable of scanning/copying documents
- Able to work independently without daily supervision
- Proven leadership, team building, independent project management, and collaborative skills
- Demonstrated commitment to pursuing a career in museum collections management or archives.
- Experience with herbarium collections or botanical collections.
Physical Demands, Work Environment and Working Conditions:
- Physical Demands: Requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, carrying, using hands to handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms, talking and hearing.
- Weight Lifted or Force Exerted: Frequently moves up to 20 lbs., ability to move up to 40 pounds.
- Environmental: Outdoor and indoor conditions. Work environment conditions can change frequently working under adverse weather conditions and in various climates.
Environmental Conditions/Hazards: The ACE member(s) may encounter environmental conditions/hazards including extreme heat or cold, rocky terrain, swamp or wetland conditions, biting insects, and potentially dangerous wildlife. The member is expected to conduct duties in a safe and orderly manner so as not to endanger self, fellow staff/members or resources.
Vehicle and Equipment Use/Safety: If a vehicle is required for the accomplishment of the duties, one will be provided by the NPS or ACE. Any tools required for the accomplishment of the duties will be provided by the site Use of personal protective equipment (PPE), typically provided by the NPS will be mandatory for any activity that requires it. Strict adherence to NPS and ACE equipment training, certification and safety protocols is required.
