Job description

Job Title: MOT Lead
Craft: MOT
Reports to: Foreman
Exempt Status: Non-Exempt (Hourly)
Position Objective/Description:
Performs a variety of traffic control duties and related tasks for MOT and construction crews under the direction of a crew foreman.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Perform flagging and other traffic control duties as directed
  • Direct traffic safely around and through a construction site
  • Set up lane closures/detours etc.
  • Set up barrels/cones and barricades on job site
  • Monitor safety conditions throughout jobsite
  • Load, unload, or distribute materials, machinery, or tools to and from designated locations
  • Signal operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment and movement of materials
  • Assist craft workers, such as carpenters, ironworkers, plasterers and masons, as needed
  • Record and report any instances of unsafe drivers
  • Maintain clean work area by disposing of trash and debris properly.
  • Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment.
  • Promote and adhere to the company's safety program.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to operate a variety of tools and equipment such as hand tools, power tools and motorized equipment.
  • Ability to listen, follow directions, and have a willingness to continue to enhance skills
  • Able to communicate effectively with jobsite supervisor and co-workers
  • General knowledge of road construction processes.
  • Demonstrate a safety first attitude. Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures.
  • Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public
  • Ability to work nights and weekends when necessary
  • Must have reliable transportation, and ability to travel to assigned worksites

Physical Demands:
  • Regular physical effort, including extended standing for at least 8 hour shift
  • Intermittent sitting; and regular walking on at construction site.
  • Occasionally twist, bend, stoop, kneel and crouch to perform duties
  • Occasionally reach above shoulder level
  • May lift and carry small objects under 10 pounds on a regular basis
  • Agility, balance, and manual dexterity, as well as arm-hand steadiness
  • Able to hear and respond to oral instructions in a noisy environment.
  • Regularly use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls; reach and grasp
  • Excellent hand, eye and foot coordination.
  • Good vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus

Education / Experience:
  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Experience working as MOT Flagger, or equivalent laborer experience.
  • Active Driver's license
Work Environment:
Regularly works in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and humidity. Frequently works near heavy equipment and moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions and vibration. Work may involve exposure to a variety of substances found on construction site such as oil, grease, gasoline, concrete and diesel fuel. Periodically exposed to fumes, lubricants, airborne particles and dust. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
