About the Role
We are looking for an Assistant Field Engineer to join our Operations team on our project in Fort Wayne, IN. This is a full-time position.
Key Responsibilities
  • Establish and maintain vertical and horizontal project control.
  • Support and oversee field engineering crew activities with guidance from a Field Engineer.
  • Plan, coordinate, and perform field engineering and layout operations using surveying equipment.
  • Provide accurate and timely layout for construction activities in accordance with project schedules and field priorities.
  • Verify layout accuracy and tolerances in accordance with contract drawings and project specifications, including foundations, anchor bolts, embeds, slabs, walls, and other critical items.
  • Collaborate with field crews, project teams, and trade partners to coordinate daily activities and resolve layout issues.

Qualifications
Required:
  • Has had previous experience leading construction layout crews.
  • Ability to operate total stations, site levels, lasers, data collectors, and tablets.
  • Strong understanding of structural, architectural, civil, and shop drawings.
  • Basic Knowledge of AutoCAD, Bluebeam, layout means and methods, and general building/site constructability.
  • Working knowledge of common field tools, including tape measures, hammers, torpedo levels, stick rulers, framing squares, and 2-foot or 4-foot levels.
  • Intermediate math and reading skills, including basic algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
  • Ability to convert inches to decimal feet and decimal feet to inches accurately.
  • Ability to calculate concrete quantities for footings, elevated slabs, round columns, and similar work.
  • Must have reliable means of transportation.
  • Strong communication, time management, and general computer skills, including standard business software.
  • Ability to work overtime, and weekend hours.
  • Consistent punctuality, dependability, and readiness to support daily project needs.
  • Ability to work in an OSHA-compliant safety environment.
  • Willingness to travel.

Preferred:
  • Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions.
  • Must be able to lift and carry layout equipment of all shapes and sizes weighing up to approximately 50lbs.
  • Work on uneven surfaces/heights, be able to read/write, and can see & hear well either naturally or with correction.
  • Must be agile/mobile, remain alert, be able to stand or walk for long periods of time, use fingers, hands & arms to reach, handle and manipulate objects, climb up/down ladders, scaffolds, and other objects.
