How much do contract labcorp phlebotomist jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 30, 2026, the average hourly pay for contract labcorp phlebotomist in the United States is $19.07, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $16.35 and $20.43 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What type of phlebotomist gets paid the most?

Experienced and certified phlebotomists with specialized skills, such as those working in hospital settings or with advanced venipuncture techniques, tend to earn higher salaries. Additionally, phlebotomists with certifications like Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) or those with more years of experience generally receive higher pay.

What is the difference between Contract Labcorp Phlebotomist vs Contract Labcorp Medical Assistant?

AspectContract Labcorp PhlebotomistContract Labcorp Medical Assistant
CertificationsPhlebotomy certification requiredCPR and Medical Assistant certification preferred
Work EnvironmentDraw blood in labs, clinics, or hospitalsAssist with patient exams and administrative tasks
Job DutiesBlood collection and specimen handlingPatient care, vitals, and administrative support

While both roles work in healthcare settings, Contract Labcorp Phlebotomists focus on blood collection, requiring specific phlebotomy certifications. Contract Labcorp Medical Assistants handle broader patient care and administrative tasks, often with different certifications. The roles complement each other but serve distinct functions within healthcare facilities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Contract Labcorp Phlebotomist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Contract Labcorp Phlebotomist, you need a solid understanding of venipuncture techniques, specimen handling, and a high school diploma or equivalent—often supplemented by a phlebotomy certification. Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS), safety protocols, and standard medical equipment is commonly required. Excellent interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and the ability to remain calm under pressure help you build patient trust and ensure accurate sample collection. These competencies are crucial for maintaining specimen integrity, ensuring patient safety, and delivering reliable laboratory results.

Will AI replace phlebotomists?

AI is unlikely to fully replace phlebotomists, as blood collection requires human skills such as patient interaction, proper technique, and handling of difficult cases. While automation and AI can assist with tasks like data management and sample processing, the role of a phlebotomist involves hands-on skills that are difficult to automate completely. Therefore, phlebotomists will continue to be essential in healthcare settings, often working alongside advanced tools and technologies.

What are Contract Labcorp Phlebotomists?

Contract Labcorp Phlebotomists are healthcare professionals who are employed on a contractual basis by Labcorp, a leading clinical laboratory company. Their primary responsibilities include drawing blood from patients, preparing specimens for laboratory analysis, and ensuring proper labeling and documentation. Unlike full-time employees, contract phlebotomists typically work for a specific period or on an as-needed basis, often filling in for staff shortages or high-demand periods. They must adhere to Labcorp's standards for patient care, safety, and confidentiality while working at clinics, hospitals, or other healthcare sites.

What are some unique challenges faced by contract Labcorp phlebotomists, and how can they be addressed?

Contract Labcorp phlebotomists often move between various client sites, which can make adapting to different workflows and patient populations a common challenge. Building rapport quickly with both new colleagues and patients is essential for effective sample collection and patient care. Staying organized and familiarizing yourself with Labcorp protocols, regardless of the site, helps maintain consistency and quality. Being proactive in communication and flexible with scheduling also makes transitions between assignments smoother.

How to become an independent contractor for phlebotomy?

To become an independent contractor as a phlebotomist, you typically need to obtain certification from a recognized organization, such as the National Phlebotomy Association or the American Society for Clinical Pathology. You must also acquire relevant experience, set up your own business or work through a staffing agency, and ensure compliance with local licensing and insurance requirements.

Does Quest or Labcorp pay more?

For contract phlebotomists at Labcorp, pay rates are generally comparable to those at Quest Diagnostics, with differences depending on location, experience, and specific job duties. Both companies offer competitive wages, but actual pay can vary based on geographic region and whether the position is full-time or part-time. It is advisable to review local job postings for the most accurate information.
