Job Title: Phlebotomist - Labcorp

Labcorp in Santa Monica is looking for a phlebotomist to join their team! This position requires a valid CPT license and experience working with patients of all ages. Opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment with a leading diagnostics company!

Job Description

The Phlebotomist plays a key role in supporting laboratory operations by performing high-quality specimen collection, handling, and processing, while also contributing to troubleshooting, training, and workflow improvement. This position focuses on accurate venipuncture and other specimen collection methods, meticulous labeling and documentation, and strict adherence to safety and regulatory standards in a fast-paced clinical or laboratory environment.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid CPT License
  • Ability to work onsite 5 days/week
  • 6+ months of inpatient or outpatient blood draw experience
  • Experience with pediatric and geriatric patients

Responsibilities

  • Perform venipunctures and blood draws using straight needles and butterfly needles with a high level of accuracy and patient care.
  • Collect and store blood, urine, fecal, and other specimens according to established procedures and protocols.
  • Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture and specimen collection process to patients to ensure understanding and comfort.
  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and verify that all information is complete and accurate.
  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by specific test orders, maintaining specimen integrity at all times.
  • Check all test requisitions or computer-generated labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy before processing or transport.
  • Package specimens for transport following established protocols to maintain proper handling and chain of custody.
  • Store specimen samples at required temperatures and place them in appropriate collection containers or tubes with accurate labeling.
  • Follow detailed procedures and protocols necessary for specimen transport to preserve specimen quality and reliability.
  • Record maintenance data and perform decontamination tasks as required to support a clean, safe, and compliant laboratory environment.
  • Update patient information and related records accurately in laboratory or hospital systems.
  • Fully understand and follow physicians’ orders related to specimen collection and processing.
  • Answer telephone calls and provide laboratory results or information as appropriate to satisfy inquiries in a professional manner.
  • Attend annual department trainings and maintain up-to-date knowledge of laboratory procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and all applicable safety standards.
  • Contribute to troubleshooting issues, participate in training activities, and make recommendations to improve workflow and efficiency.

Essential Skills

  • Valid CPT license
  • Minimum of 6 months of work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in phlebotomy, blood draws, and venipuncture techniques using straight and butterfly needles.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 6+ months of overall experience in a clinical, hospital, or laboratory environment.

Work Environment

This role operates in a fast-paced clinical or laboratory setting where precise specimen collection, handling, and processing are critical. The phlebotomist works with standard phlebotomy equipment, including straight and butterfly needles, collection tubes, centrifuges, and specimen storage systems. Work involves frequent interaction with patients, healthcare providers, and laboratory staff, as well as use of computer systems and Microsoft Office Suite for documentation and data entry. The environment emphasizes strict adherence to OSHA and DEP regulations, safety protocols, and infection control procedures, including regular decontamination and equipment maintenance. Annual department trainings support continuous learning and regulatory compliance. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr.
