Job description

The Medical Assistant in Nephrology plays a critical role in supporting the nephrology clinic team by managing both clinical and administrative tasks with precision and care. This position focuses on accurate clinical intake, efficient lab result review, patient education related to kidney health, and seamless support of clinic operations. Attention to detail and strong communication skills are essential to ensure high-quality care for patients with kidney-related conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Measure and record vital signs, height, weight, and collect detailed medical histories
  • Review laboratory results and flag critical values for providers
  • Prepare, stock, and sanitize examination rooms
  • Manage appointment scheduling, prescription refills, and insurance/prior authorization processing
  • Answer clinic telephones and support front-desk operations
  • Provide patient education on self-care, medication adjustments, and preparation for dialysis or kidney testing
  • Document patient information accurately in Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems
  • Occasionally travel to other clinics as needed

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1+ years experience in nephrology medical assisting
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Proficient in vital signs measurement and clinical intake procedures
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and Electronic Health Records (EHR)
  • Experience with patient education and laboratory result review
  • Familiarity with appointment scheduling and insurance authorization processing
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills
