Company Description PHANTOM-TRI RIVER CHARTERS INC is a Talkeetna, Alaska–based guide service specializing in fishing trips for all species of salmon, as well as rainbow trout, Dolly Varden, and grayling. The company operates jet boats and rafts to provide safe, memorable experiences on local rivers and in remote locations. Trips are designed for both spin and fly anglers, offering customized adventures for a wide range of skill levels. As one of the longest-running and largest guide services in Alaska’s interior, PHANTOM-TRI RIVER CHARTERS INC is known for professional guiding, local expertise, and high-quality client service.

Role Description The Fishing Guide role is a contract, on-site position based in Talkeetna, AK. Day-to-day responsibilities include leading guided fishing trips, operating jet boats and/or rafts, and safely navigating river environments to access productive fishing locations. The guide will assist guests with gear setup, casting, landing fish, and basic instruction for both spin and fly fishing. Additional tasks include preparing equipment and boats before trips, maintaining cleanliness and safety standards, and monitoring weather and river conditions. The role also involves providing friendly, informative customer service, sharing knowledge about local wildlife and habitats, and ensuring every guest has a safe, enjoyable experience.

Qualifications

  • Candidates should possess strong Fishing skills, including experience with both spin and fly fishing techniques.
  • Candidates should possess practical Fly Tying skills to support guests with appropriate patterns for local conditions.
  • Candidates should possess excellent Communication and Customer Service skills to engage guests, explain techniques clearly, and respond to questions professionally.
  • Candidates should possess knowledge of local Wildlife and river ecosystems to guide safely and enhance guest learning.
  • Valid boat operation skills and comfort working on rivers; relevant licenses or certifications for watercraft operation are highly beneficial.
  • First Aid/CPR certification, strong situational awareness, and commitment to safety in remote outdoor environments.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, lift and carry gear, and stand for extended periods.
  • Previous guiding or outdoor leadership experience and familiarity with the Talkeetna area or Alaska fisheries are advantageous.
