What is a contract external auditor?

Contract External Auditors are independent professionals or firms hired on a contract basis to examine and evaluate the financial statements and records of an organization. Their purpose is to provide an unbiased opinion on whether the company's financial statements accurately reflect its financial position and comply with legal and accounting standards. Unlike internal auditors, external auditors are not employees of the organization they audit and typically report their findings to stakeholders, such as shareholders or regulatory bodies. Their work helps ensure transparency, accountability, and trust in an organization's financial practices.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a contract external auditor?

To thrive as a Contract External Auditor, you need a solid understanding of accounting principles, auditing standards, and financial reporting, typically backed by a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance and often a CPA or equivalent certification. Familiarity with audit software, data analytics tools, and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems is highly valuable. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help auditors identify issues and clearly present findings to clients. These competencies ensure audits are thorough, reliable, and compliant with regulatory requirements, ultimately supporting client trust and organizational integrity.

What are some common challenges contract external auditors face when working with multiple clients simultaneously?

Contract External Auditors often manage several client engagements at once, which requires strong organizational and time-management skills. Balancing competing deadlines, adapting to different client industries, and quickly learning new internal controls can be challenging. Additionally, auditors must maintain objectivity and adhere to strict professional standards, even when clients have varying expectations or documentation practices. Effective communication and prioritization are key to ensuring all audit assignments are completed accurately and on time.

Job description

Financial Analyst – Fontana, CA | Full Relocation Package Offered

Relocate to Southern California's Inland Empire — Sunshine, Space, and Career Growth

Trade cramped city living for wide-open Southern California skies, with the mountains for weekend hiking, wine country minutes away, and downtown Los Angeles still well within reach when you want the big-city energy. This corner of the Inland Empire offers a rare combination for SoCal: more house for your money, a lower cost of living than the coast, and a genuine community feel, all without giving up beaches, world-class dining, or major-league sports. It's Southern California living without the Southern California price tag.

The company provides full relocation assistance, with candidates able to begin the role remotely for 30-60 days while relocation logistics are finalized.

Our client, a leading manufacturer of aero and industrial gas turbine components, is a globally recognized public company with more than 75 years of innovation, growth, and technical excellence. Renowned across the aerospace industry, this organization fosters a culture that values continuous improvement, professional development, and inclusion. Recognized by Forbes as one of the World's Best Employers, the company has earned a reputation for its commitment to employee success, forward-thinking leadership, and global impact in the aerospace and energy sectors.

Why Consider Joining Our Client

  • Publicly traded global leader on a sustained path of growth and innovation
  • Recognized by Forbes as a Top Global Employer
  • Exceptional insurance coverage and 401(k) match, both effective on day one
  • Employer contribution to your Retirement Savings Plan every pay period
  • A vibrant, collaborative culture where cross-functional teams thrive
  • Professional development through extensive training programs and continuous learning
  • Free on-site fitness center membership promoting work-life balance

Position Overview

This role provides key financial support to the plant, including annual budget, monthly forecast, weekly flash, month-end close, monthly financial reporting, ad-hoc business financial analysis, and internal control testing and compliance.

What You'll Do

  • Prepare monthly financial forecasts, weekly forecast updates, and analysis of financial and operational results
  • Perform monthly account reconciliations and inventory analysis
  • Perform self-assessment audits and ensure SOX compliance
  • Review, analyze, and report monthly manufacturing variances and plant expenses affecting job costing — raw materials, inventory, cost of production labor, outplant, R&D, and other indirect costs
  • Support cross-functional development of departmental budgets, including reviews, analysis, and periodic reporting of key metrics
  • Assist internal and external auditors on facility audits
  • Help management assess factors affecting pricing and profitability of products/services
  • Report actual financial results and performance measures to the corporate office monthly
  • Prepare and post journal entries; handle other accounting tasks as needed

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in an accounting role, with formal training in financial accounting, cost accounting, financial analysis, and reporting
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills, able to synthesize data and make calls without complete information
  • Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills; comfortable working cross-functionally beyond accounting/finance
  • Expert user of Microsoft Office; Epicor, Oracle, and Hyperion experience a plus
  • This position is subject to ITAR and requires U.S. person status
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. (no visa sponsorship)
