Job description

Job Title: CAD Administrator / EPLAN Migration Specialist

Job Description

This role focuses on leading the migration of existing AutoCAD Mechanical-based electrical design standards, templates, symbols, and drawing formats into EPLAN. You will collaborate closely with engineering and drafting teams to analyze current CAD environments, develop equivalent EPLAN structures, and establish a scalable, standardized framework that supports future electrical design projects. The position is ideal for a CAD professional with strong EPLAN implementation experience, deep knowledge of electrical documentation, and a passion for driving CAD standardization and process improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze existing AutoCAD Mechanical electrical drawing packages, including templates, title blocks, symbols, and drafting standards, to understand current practices and requirements.
  • Develop and configure EPLAN project templates, forms, reports, macros, and symbol libraries that accurately reflect and improve upon existing standards.
  • Migrate legacy electrical drawing standards, workflows, and documentation from AutoCAD Mechanical into EPLAN while maintaining design integrity and consistency.
  • Create standardized EPLAN environments and project structures that support future electrical design work and enable scalable, repeatable project execution.
  • Validate migrated templates, libraries, and project structures to ensure they align with current engineering practices and quality expectations.
  • Work directly with engineering and drafting teams to understand existing drawing structures, workflows, and constraints, and translate them into EPLAN-compatible solutions.
  • Provide recommendations on EPLAN best practices, CAD governance, and long-term standardization strategies to support continuous improvement.
  • Develop clear documentation and user guides for newly created EPLAN standards, templates, macros, and workflows.
  • Support testing, troubleshooting, and refinement of migrated templates, symbol libraries, and forms to address issues and optimize usability.
  • Train designers, engineers, and drafting personnel on the new EPLAN environment, including templates, workflows, and best practices, as needed.
  • Review legacy CAD environments and create structured migration plans that outline scope, sequence, and milestones for conversion to EPLAN.
  • Contribute to knowledge transfer efforts by preparing migration documentation, best practices guides, and training materials for engineering and drafting teams.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders in manufacturing, industrial automation, controls, power distribution, or OEM-related environments to ensure the EPLAN implementation meets operational needs.
  • Deliver a fully functional EPLAN template environment, including migrated title blocks, symbols, reports, forms, and standardized project structures.

Essential Skills

  • At least 5 years of electrical CAD design experience.
  • At least 3 years of hands-on EPLAN experience.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing or migrating CAD standards into EPLAN.
  • Strong understanding of electrical schematics, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, and control system documentation.
  • Proven experience creating EPLAN templates, including project templates and standardized environments.
  • Proven experience developing EPLAN macros for recurring design elements.
  • Proven experience building and maintaining EPLAN symbol libraries.
  • Proven experience creating EPLAN forms and reports to support engineering documentation and project deliverables.
  • Experience working with AutoCAD Mechanical drawings in an electrical design context.
  • Ability to review legacy CAD environments and develop structured, practical migration plans.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with engineering and drafting teams.
  • Strong documentation skills, including the ability to produce clear standards, guides, and procedures.
  • 3–5 years of combined EPLAN and AutoCAD experience.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Previous experience migrating from AutoCAD, AutoCAD Mechanical, AutoCAD Electrical, or similar CAD platforms into EPLAN.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing, industrial automation, controls, power distribution, or OEM environments.
  • Familiarity with UL508A, NEC, IEC, or other electrical design standards.
  • Experience conducting EPLAN user training and providing implementation support to engineering and drafting teams.
  • as an EPLAN Administrator, EPLAN Application Engineer, or Electrical CAD Systems Administrator.
  • Experience as an Electrical Design Engineer with EPLAN expertise or as a Controls Engineer with EPLAN implementation experience.
  • Experience with CAD administration, including governance of templates, libraries, and standards.
  • Experience moving AutoCAD templates into EPLAN and developing a library of new EPLAN templates and schematics.
  • Experience in drafting and CAD standardization projects.

Work Environment

This position operates in a manufacturing-focused environment where EPLAN and AutoCAD tools support electrical design, drafting, and documentation activities. You will work closely with engineering, drafting, and production stakeholders to ensure CAD standards align with real-world manufacturing and industrial automation requirements. The role involves a mix of focused CAD administration and collaborative project work, including knowledge transfer and training. The organization offers billable holidays and paid time off, contributing to a supportive and balanced work setting.
