Position Overview:
The role of the Design Engineer will be to collaborate on designs and develop application solutions for our customers through a consultative approach with our: manufacturers' engineering teams, our internal applications engineering team, as well as our customers' engineers. With the vast array of automation solutions we provide, electro-mechanical designs could range from: 1) control panel assembly layouts, 2) electrical schematic generation, 3) gearmotor configurations, to 4) configuring pneumatic valve stacks. However, in addition, the core platform of the mechanical designs will be our aluminum extrusion product offering. Each level below builds upon technical and leadership skills to support the team's overall success.
Reports to: Design Engineering Manager
Collaborates with: Materials Team, Sales Team, Engineering Team, Operations Team, Customers
Key Responsibilities:
Routine Work:
Within the Department
  • Assist with taking a system concept and / or quote and turning that into a fully designed system with 1) a bill of materials, 2) design drawings, and 3) supporting detail
  • Effectively and efficiently use 1) Solidworks, 2) AutoCAD and 3) EPLAN software packages to produce:
    • Control panel mechanical layouts
    • Electrical schematic designs
  • Assist in converting Solidworks, AutoCAD or EPLAN drawings for use on a Perforex enclosure modification machine
  • Assist with validating and verifying build specifications, and ensuring compliance with industry standards
    • Maintain product knowledge across existing 1) mechanical, 2) electrical, 3) robotic, and 4) motion control product families and manufacturers
  • Effectively and efficiently use Microsoft software (Teams, Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook) and business software used by the company
  • Record and track project tasks, and perform effective project management; prioritizing and managing multiple assignments as needed

Outside the Department
  • Help resolve manufacturing issues as they arise by working closely with the production teams
  • Interface directly with customers to gather design information required to develop a solution that meets the customer's requirements

Non-Routine Work:

  • Effectively and efficiently use: 1) Solidworks, 2) AutoCAD, and 3) quoter tools to generate:
    • Mechanical aluminum extrusion designs
    • Bills of materials
    • Project quotes
  • Provide timely and accurate responses to technical customer requests for quote
  • Assist in performing peer design reviews

Stretch / Change / Growth Tasks
  • UL 508a Qualified Manufacturer Technical Representative
    • Obtain a UL MTR Certification to be the local on-site representative when UL compliance questions are generated by the production teams
  • Assist Inside Sales and Business Development Managers to develop the scope of work and initial bill of materials estimates for project quotes
  • This position will allow for developing sales and engineering aptitude, along with relationship building skills and vast experience in applications

Qualifications & Experience:
Education:

Experience:
