POSITION TITLE: HCC Instructor - Health Science
REPORTS TO: Director of Hart Career Center
LOCATION: HCC
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in health science, nursing, or related field.
  • Valid state teaching certificate or eligibility for certification in Health Science or Career and Technical Education
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate

PURPOSE STATEMENT
The Health Science Instructor teaches students about healthcare careers and foundational health science concepts. The instructor prepares students for postsecondary education or entry-level employment in the healthcare field through classroom instruction, hands-on activities, and career exploration.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Instruction and Curriculum
  • Plan and deliver standards-based health science instruction aligned with Missouri Learning Standards and CTE competencies
  • Teach courses in areas such as medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, health occupations, and healthcare careers
  • Integrate classroom instruction with laboratory activities, simulations, and hands-on learning experiences
  • Utilize industry-relevant technology, medical equipment, and instructional tools to enhance learning
  • Monitor student progress and adjust instruction based on assessment data
  • Promote safe practices and maintain a safe classroom and laboratory environment
Student Leadership and Program Development
  • Promote student leadership, professionalism, and career readiness within the health sciences pathway
  • Coordinate job shadowing, internships, or clinical experiences when available
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with local healthcare providers and community organizations
  • Promote career exploration and post-secondary opportunities in health science fields
  • Assist students in developing career and technical skills aligned with workforce demands

Assessment and Communication
  • Assess student learning through formative and summative measures
  • Maintain accurate student records, grades, and program documentation
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and program activities
  • Participate in parent-teacher conferences and school meetings
Collaboration and Professional Responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively with CTE staff, school personnel, and community partners
  • Participate in professional development related to health science education and instructional practices
  • Maintain program compliance with state and federal CTE requirements
  • Follow district policies, procedures, and professional standards
  • Support school events and activities as assigned

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Abide by state statutes, school board policies, and regulations
  • Attend meetings as assigned
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law and district policy
  • Remain current on healthcare industry trends and instructional practices in health science education
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 9 month contract year
Annual contract for school year and Extended School Year, if applicable, in accordance with the provisions of Board of Education policy on evaluation of certified staff.
Background clearance required; the results of which must be satisfactory to the District.
EVALUATION:
Performance will be evaluated by the Building Principal in accordance with district policies and teacher evaluation procedures.
