Job description

Job Title: PCB Design Engineer

Job Description

The PCB Design Engineer designs and develops complex PCB layouts for new and existing electronic products, manages key design tools and libraries, and collaborates closely with cross-functional engineering teams throughout the product development lifecycle. This role leads PCB design reviews, ensures high-quality documentation for manufacturing, and applies current industry standards and emerging technologies to deliver reliable, high-speed circuit designs that meet customer requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop PCB layouts for new and existing electronic products, focusing on performance, manufacturability, and reliability.
  • Manage and maintain PADS component libraries, including creation, review, and approval of new components.
  • Lead PCB design reviews and provide guidance on signal integrity, crosstalk mitigation, and high-speed design best practices.
  • Collaborate closely with electrical, hardware, and mechanical engineers throughout the product development lifecycle to ensure cohesive system-level design.
  • Evaluate and qualify electronic components in partnership with the engineering team to ensure suitability and long-term availability.
  • Prepare project estimates and quotes based on customer requirements and engineering specifications.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive manufacturing documentation, including schematics, bills of materials (BOMs), assembly drawings, and related PCBA documentation.
  • Apply current industry standards and emerging technologies related to PCB materials, stack-up design, manufacturing processes, and high-speed circuit design.
  • Participate in technical, program, and departmental meetings to support project alignment, risk mitigation, and successful execution.
  • Communicate directly with clients to gather and clarify technical requirements and ensure designs meet their expectations.

Essential Skills

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in PCB design and layout for electronic products.
  • Advanced proficiency in either Altium Designer or PADS for PCB layout and library management.
  • Hands-on experience designing high-speed, multi-layer boards with a minimum of 8 layers.
  • Strong understanding of signal integrity, crosstalk mitigation, and high-speed design principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and maintain PCB component libraries, including component creation, review, and approval.
  • Experience working across multiple projects, industries, companies, or end clients, with the ability to flex between different design requirements.
  • Ability and desire to communicate directly with clients to gather technical requirements and provide design guidance.
  • Proficiency in creating and maintaining schematics, BOMs, assembly drawings, and other PCBA manufacturing documentation.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and practices related to PCB materials, stack-up design, and manufacturing processes.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience designing very high-density, high-speed boards with up to 24 layers.
  • Familiarity with Xpedition for advanced PCB design and layout.
  • Experience leading formal design reviews and presenting technical recommendations to cross-functional teams.
  • Experience working in environments that support multiple concurrent programs and customer engagements.

Work Environment

This role is fully onsite during the initial contract period of approximately two months, providing close collaboration with engineering and program teams. After this period, the position may offer up to two remote days per week, supporting a hybrid work arrangement. The work environment is focused on complex PCB and electronic product development, using professional PCB design tools such as Altium Designer, PADS, and potentially Xpedition. The engineer participates in technical, program, and departmental meetings, works closely with electrical, hardware, and mechanical engineers, and supports manufacturing through detailed documentation. The setting emphasizes high-speed, multi-layer board design, adherence to industry standards, and direct interaction with clients to align technical requirements with deliverables.
