Job description

Job Description Job Title: Data Platform Engineer Location: Charlotte, NC (Hybrid schedule: 3 days per week onsite) Duration: 12 months + Possibility to Extend and/or Convert to FTE Pay Rate: $60 - $70 (W2 Only) Job/Role Description: This role supports the design, buildout, and enablement of a large-scale data private cloud platform on Kubernetes and OpenShift to support enterprise data analytics workloads across 70+ tenants. This position will focus on core platform engineering while also supporting tenant enablement, observability implementation, and security controls to ensure the environment is scalable, secure, and production-ready. This position will configure and integrate platform components including compute, storage, networking layers, object storage, and execution engines in preparation for enterprise data center migration.

Collaborate with network and infrastructure teams on foundational elements such as firewalls, load balancing, ingress/egress controls, and network segmentation for multi-tenant environments. Enable onboarding of tenant applications by defining access models, resource allocation, and environment setup to ensure successful platform adoption. Design and implement observability frameworks including monitoring, alerting, dashboards, and integrations with tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, BigPanda, PagerDuty, and ThousandEyes.

Develop automation solutions using Terraform, Helm, and GitOps practices (Argo CD preferred) to support platform provisioning, deployments, and ongoing operations. Implement and maintain platform-level security and compliance controls, including Kubernetes/OpenShift Network Policies with default deny and least privilege communication models. Partner with cross-functional teams including networking, security, and infrastructure to support delivery, solutioning, and acceleration of platform buildout and tenant enablement.

Utilize ServiceNow for incident, request, and change management as part of platform operations and support. Required Qualifications Strong hands-on experience with Kubernetes; OpenShift experience strongly preferred. Strong Linux administration and engineering experience.

Experience building and configuring enterprise-grade platforms from the ground up. Experience designing and implementing observability, monitoring, alerting, and dashboard solutions for cloud or container platforms. Hands-on experience with observability and monitoring tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, BigPanda, PagerDuty, or ThousandEyes.

Experience with infrastructure automation tools including Terraform and Helm. Experience with GitOps practices and tools, preferably Argo CD. Experience with IT service management and ticketing tools such as ServiceNow.

Experience with object storage, execution engines (e.g., Spark or Trino), table formats (e.g., Iceberg or Hive), and metadata lineage tools (e.g., DataHub) is a plus. Experience with OpenShift ingress/egress control, load balancing for high availability, network segmentation and isolation in multi-tenant environments, and Kubernetes/OpenShift Network Policies is a plus. Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities with strong attention to detail

Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills. Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, collaborative environment. Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a dynamic environment and make sound decisions under pressure.

Highly self-motivated, directed, and organized with a strong customer service orientation.
