Customs Entry Writer

Customs Entry Writer (Hybrid/Remote) Company: Johnson Service Group Location: Houston, Texas Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire

Overview

Johnson Service Group, a leading professional recruiting firm, is seeking a Customs Entry Writer for a remote opportunity with a highly reputable customs broker. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional who thrives in a fast-paced, high-volume environment and is committed to accuracy and regulatory compliance. The Customs Entry Writer plays a critical role in ensuring seamless import and export operations, maintaining compliance with U.S. Customs regulations, and supporting overall trade operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Customer Onboarding & Compliance
    • Prepare and process new customer onboarding packets for import/export activities.
    • Ensure all documentation aligns with internal policies and sales agreements.
    • Verify and validate Power of Attorney (POA) documentation to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Documentation & Data Management
    • Review and validate packing lists, commercial invoices, and Bills of Lading (BOLs) for accuracy and proper classification.
    • Maintain and update client profiles in CargoWise, ensuring consistency with tariff structures and regulatory requirements.
    • Track and manage monthly bond renewals, including billing considerations and termination handling for prior months.
    • Maintain an organized account calendar, tracking compliance deadlines, address updates, and bond responses.
  • Financial & Reporting Duties
    • Generate and analyze daily and monthly operational reports to support efficiency improvements.
    • Process accounts payable invoices accurately, ensuring proper coding and documentation.
Qualifications

Minimum of 2 years of experience in customs brokerage, logistics, or trade compliance completing Customs Entries (beyond entering into a database) Must be able to calculate tariffs and taxes. CargoWise experience is required. Strong working knowledge of customs entry processes, tariff classification, and compliance procedures. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook). Excellent communication and customer service skills with the ability to collaborate across clients, carriers, and regulatory agencies. Solid math and financial calculation skills relevant to customs brokerage operations.
