Job description

Overview
Position Summary
The Manager of Curriculum & Training is a hands-on leadership role focused on managing and maintaining Studyville's K-5 literacy tutoring program. Studyville's K-5 literacy curriculum is already developed; this role is responsible for training tutors on that curriculum, overseeing its digitalization, keeping it aligned with current state standards, and editing materials as needed. The Manager also oversees art direction for Studyville's illustrator and communicates edits to both the illustrator and copy editor to ensure all materials are polished, on-brand, and classroom-ready.
In addition, this role delivers professional development to K-12 teachers on evidence-based tutoring practices grounded in the Science of Reading. The Manager will serve as a key collaborator on a state literacy project, assisting the middle school curriculum writer with 4th-6th grade literacy content. This position requires deep familiarity with Science of Reading pedagogy, including formal training and direct classroom experience using Science of Reading methods.

Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
Curriculum Management & Instructional Leadership
  • Manage and maintain Studyville's existing K-5 literacy tutoring curriculum, including ongoing editing, quality review, and version control to keep materials accurate and current.
  • Oversee the digitalization of the current K-5 literacy curriculum, ensuring materials are properly formatted, organized, and accessible on digital platforms.
  • Monitor state literacy standards and ESA requirements on an ongoing basis; update curriculum as needed to maintain alignment.
  • Oversee art direction for Studyville's illustrator, providing clear creative briefs and communicating edits to ensure illustrations meet design and educational standards.
  • Communicate editorial revisions to the illustrator and copy editor, tracking feedback through completion and ensuring all materials are polished and on-brand before release.
  • Collaborate with the middle school curriculum writer on a state literacy project, contributing to 4th-6th grade literacy content development.
  • Translate state standards into practical, tutor-facing tools and materials.
  • Help transform current tutor-facing materials into family- and commercial-ready materials.
  • Create video modules for tutor and parent lesson assistance.

Tutor Training & Professional Development
  • Design and produce tutor training modules and resources, including course documents, slides, voiceovers, and live, recorded, and self-paced content.
  • Train tutors on Science of Reading principles, math instructional strategies, Studyville platform tools, such as StudyTrack, and state-aligned instructional practices.
  • Conduct tutor training on Studyville's existing K-5 literacy curriculum, ensuring tutors understand the content, instructional strategies, and Science of Reading principles underlying the program.
  • Deliver professional development to K-12 teachers on evidence-based tutoring practices, including Science of Reading instructional methods, progress monitoring, and data-driven instruction.
  • Provide training on data collection and progress monitoring in coordination with the data team to support state-aligned instruction.
  • Collaborate with school leaders and internal teams to ensure training reflects current research and on-the-ground classroom needs.
  • Deliver in-person training sessions to tutors and teachers; must be comfortable with public speaking and presenting to groups of varying sizes.
  • Record instructional videos on literacy topics for public-facing or educational use; must be at ease on camera and able to communicate concepts clearly in a recorded format.

State-Level Curriculum Approval & Compliance
  • Serve as the academic point of contact for state literacy standards and ESA requirements, ensuring Studyville's K-5 literacy curriculum and tutoring program remain in compliance.
  • Monitor changes in state education standards and proactively update curriculum materials to maintain alignment.
  • Maintain current familiarity with state literacy curriculum standards and alignments across all active states; serve as the curriculum and content expert for out-of-state contracts.
  • Support state-level relationship building and presentations as needed to maintain program approval and compliance.

Quality Assurance, Documentation & Version Control
  • Direct curriculum QA work, including the editing/QA team, assigning content, reviewing output, and ensuring lessons and materials are accurate, polished, and on-brand before release.
  • Maintain digital documentation, version control, and the curriculum resource database.
  • Communicate proactively with stakeholders and leadership to clarify issues and keep deliverables on schedule.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Literacy, Curriculum & Instruction, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in education, curriculum development, or instructional design, including direct classroom experience teaching with Science of Reading methods.
  • Formal training in the Science of Reading, such as structured literacy training, LETRS, or equivalent; must be able to demonstrate applied knowledge in the classroom.
  • Familiarity with K-5 literacy instruction and grade-level standards; familiarity with 4th-6th grade literacy content and standards required.
  • Experience editing educational content and communicating revisions to illustrators, designers, or copy editors.
  • Strong familiarity with current state education standards and ESA and tutoring program requirements.
  • Ability to deliver professional development and training to adult learners, including K-12 teachers.
  • Experience in online or digital learning environments and virtual instructional support.
  • Strong written/verbal communication, organizational, and project management skills.

Preferred
  • Master's degree in Education, Literacy, Curriculum & Instruction, or a related field.
  • Advanced or specialized training in structured literacy or Science of Reading, such as CERI, IDA-accredited program, or dyslexia practitioner certification.
  • Experience with instructional technology platforms, such as Google Workspace, LMS systems, Canva, and digital curriculum tools.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit or stand at a computer workstation for extended periods.
  • Occasional travel required for in-person meetings with partners and internal teams.
  • Please note that this position's office is located on the second floor; there is no elevator access.
