Job description

Controls Engineer (Contract-to-Hire) Northern Nevada

Overview

Our energy and power company is seeking a Controls Engineer to support two generation facilities in Northern Nevada This role is a contract to hire position intended to convert to a full-time hire after a successful contract period.

The ideal candidate will provide hands?on controls expertise to strengthen a team facing skill gaps due to retirements and limited controls experience among existing staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Primary Controls Troubleshooting

Diagnose and resolve controls related issues with the goal of keeping units online and operating reliably. Troubleshooting is the top day-to-day priority.

  • Logic and Controls Analysis

Investigate logic issues, alarms, and abnormal operating conditions within plant control systems.

  • System Upgrades & Optimization

Participate in controls-related plant upgrades, modifications, improvements, and long-term performance enhancement projects.

  • Project Participation

Support ongoing and new projects associated with engine, plant, and system improvements.

  • Cross-Site Support

Split responsibilities between two plants some travel required within Nevada

  • Documentation & Runbook Improvement

Contribute to improving existing runbooks, troubleshooting guides, and process documentation as needed. While some documentation exists, enhancements are expected.

Required Technical Skills

  • Experience with Emerson Ovation control systems (strongly preferred).
  • Experience with GE Mark VI (Mark 6) control systems is also valuable; familiarity with either system is acceptable if the candidate possesses strong controls fundamentals.
  • Ability to interpret and work with block logic and other controls?related logic structures.
  • Strong troubleshooting capability in an industrial controls environment.

Preferred Background & Experience

  • 5+ years of relevant controls engineering or industrial controls experience.

Our Customer prefers candidates who are committed to controls as a long-term career path.

  • Experience supporting power generation facilities (renewable or thermal) is beneficial but not explicitly required.
  • Capability to work closely with instrumentation technicians, corporate engineering teams, and site leadership.
