Job description

A medical academic center is looking for a REMOTE Outpatient Surgery Coder to join their team.
Overview of Responsibilities:
  • Review electronic health records and supporting documentation in Epic and/or Cerner to identify all billable ambulatory surgery procedures and services requiring facility fee coding through Epic Hospital Billing (HB) and 3M Computer Assisted Coding (CAC).
  • Assign appropriate CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS codes for all ambulatory surgery procedures and related diagnoses.
  • Review and resolve coding edits associated with procedures and services performed during ambulatory surgery visits in the operating room.
  • Collaborate with physicians and clinical department representatives to verify services are rendered, properly documented, and meet requirements for outpatient/ambulatory coding.
  • Maintain a three-day coding turnaround time for ambulatory surgery accounts based on date of service.
  • Identify and escalate issues impacting timely coding, charge capture, and reimbursement to Coding Leadership to prevent billing delays.

Performance Metrics
  • Maintain productivity standards of 3 completed charts per hour while achieving 95% accuracy and completion rates.
  • Meet daily activity expectations based on 8 hours of coding productivity, with performance consistently tracked and reviewed.

Requirements:
  • 3+ years of professional medical coding experience.
  • One of the following certifications required: COC or CCS (top candidates preferred), or CCS-P, CIC, CIRCC, RCC, or ROCC.
  • Experience with Epic Hospital Billing (HB) and 3M Computer Assisted Coding (CAC).

Prior coding experience across multiple specialties, including:
  • General Surgery
  • Integumentary / Plastic Surgery
  • Orthopedics / Podiatry
  • Respiratory
  • Cardiovascular
  • Hemic & Lymphatic
  • Digestive
  • Urinary
  • Reproductive / Genital
  • Endocrine
  • Nervous System
  • Ophthalmology
  • Auditory
  • Experience with facility billing and coding systems including ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS.
  • Experience working in teaching hospitals or trauma centers, supporting complex and high-volume surgical cases.

Preferred Requirements:
  • Experience with a Level I Trauma Center.
  • High School Diploma or GED.

Schedule/Shift:
  • Monday - Friday | 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM PST.
  • Upon conversion to full-time employment, the schedule includes up to 90 minutes of start/end time flexibility.

Contract Length:
1,040 Hours. Opportunity to convert to permanent hire after satisfactory completion of contract.
Pay:
$31.85 - $45.00 (Based on experience)
