Job description

This is a hybrid position and must be located within 100 miles of the Mayo Clinic campus in Rochester, MN for quarterly on-site expectations and other potential ad hoc meetings as needed.

This position provides oversight and control of the supply chain category management process for Mayo Clinic. The Category Management Director will act as a role model for staff and will coach as well as actively lead the development of effective category strategies and ensure execution. This individual is an expert in change management as well as supplier and stakeholder engagement. They make significant contributions to the supply management initiatives of Mayo Clinic and Captis. Supporting activities include developing and participating in short-term tactics and long-range plans that result in optimal supply chain management performance. This Director must also take an active Mayo enterprise and Captis role with physician and executive leadership. In addition, they serve as the primary category management interface on all enterprise and Captis category management functions pertaining to the products and supplies assigned to their work unit. Typically, they will be responsible for contracts totaling in excess of $500M annual spend. The Director actively participates in the standardization/value analysis process, in providing customer service to end-users, in the awarding of contracts, and in business reviews for agreements and supplier partnerships. This position will be responsible for managing and adhering to operating budget, as well as understanding and contributing to meeting targets and plans for the overall enterprise Supply Chain Management budget.

A four-year undergraduate degree in business or a related field is a minimum requirement, along with 10+ years of supply chain management experience. Must have extensive product and market knowledge. Must have broad supply chain management experience as well as experience with business process standardization and performance improvement strategies. Work experience in a hospital, a multi-hospital system or other healthcare related setting is required. 

A master's degree, other advanced degree or CPA is desirable. In addition to the 10+ years minimum experience, at least five years' experience in progressively responsible management positions in supply chain management is highly desirable. Working knowledge of supply chain category management methodology, tools and skills (demonstrated competency of "leader". "expert" or "master") is desired. Preference will be given to individuals with prior experience as a Director, Manager or VP of supply chain management. Experience in another industry is viewed positively, particularly in an industry that is viewed as having world-class supply chain management. Experience with cost management consultants working on non-clinical operational efficiency improvements, care process/procedural standardization improvements, and/or improved patient outcome activities is desirable. Certification in purchasing/supply chain management is preferred. Advanced certification in healthcare desirable.
