Job Description

The Role

We're looking for a Business Manager to help run the day-to-day business side of our wholesale produce operation. You'll be the go-between for Sales and Purchasing, keeping pricing, margins, programs, and reporting tight-so we can grow profitably and avoid costly misses. If you're great with data, like digging into what's driving results, and can communicate clearly with a bunch of different teams, you'll fit right in.

What you'll do:

You'll wear a few hats-pricing and margin management, business reporting, contract/program support, and some office/admin coordination.

Essential Responsibilities Include but Not Limited To

Profitability, pricing, and growth

  • Own profitability analysis across all sales channels.
  • Review daily margins and recommend quick changes to drive results.
  • Build and maintain pricing strategies and tools (including our pricing matrix).
  • Partner with Sales to set up customer pricing and make sure it's working in the real world.
  • Understand program/contract pricing and help keep us aligned with customer agreements.
  • Bring clear reporting and insights to the leadership team to support decisions.
  • Work with the General Manager on margin targets and follow-through.
  • Team up with Purchasing and Sales to stay compliant with contracts and programs.
  • Set up new items for schools and special orders; support pricing, bidding, and category/customer needs.
  • Run regular reports to review customer pricing and catch issues early.
  • Office billing & accounting support

Office & Operations support

  • Process inbound invoices, customer payments (cash/check), and credits.
  • Handle daily mail and bank runs.
  • Route vendor, utility, and other bills to Accounts Payable for processing.
  • Keep the office stocked: track inventory and order supplies.
  • Make sure cost changes and receiving corrections are accurate so invoices and POs reconcile cleanly.
  • Track and coordinate office equipment (laptops, phones, headsets, docking stations, etc.).
  • Help with admin needs like travel/hotel bookings for employees traveling for work.

Projects & cross-team work

  • Jump in on special projects as needed with the Sales Manager and General Manager.
  • Be the division's go-to contact for basic IT coordination (satellite support).
  • Dig into the business and spot opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Support tracking of internal rebates, freight income, and contract/program management.
  • Work with Purchasing on variances and follow-ups.
  • Partner with the corporate pricing/admin team to keep pricing setup and processes consistent.
  • Help manage vendor credits and follow through to resolution.
Qualifications

Required Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in Finance, Accounting, or Business Manager Role
  • Experience in wholesale, produce, foodservice, or a fast-moving distribution environment.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of internal and external customers.
  • Effective teacher and educator
  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to track and monitor programs using a detailed spreadsheet or MS Access system.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections
  • Strong analytical skills relating to mathematical calculations, logical/relational similarities, and problem solving
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
