The Biomedical Technician II works within the Clinical Engineering Department to support activities related to the service and management of the medical equipment. This position may perform activities, such as data entry and analysis within the medical equipment database, compiling and submitting various reports, direct communication with vendors and customers, and performing basic technical service activities. For all tasks, there will be an emphasis on high quality and contribution to the department's efforts toward cost-effective management of the medical equipment. The Biomedical Technician II may work within any assigned area(s) of Franciscan Health and at other locations supported by the Clinical Engineering Department, under the guidance of Biomedical Equipment Technicians or Clinical Engineers, as directed by Clinical Engineering management.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

  • Assess new technology and assists in the procurement of clinical equipment.

  • Establish and implement plan for collecting data on new technology.

  • Review pre-purchase evaluation.

  • Install, inspect, troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, and perform modifications on diagnostic and therapeutic medical electrical.

  • Perform and provide mechanical repairs, modifications, and calibrations of all classes of biomedical equipment, including ECG, pulse, blood pressure and respiration monitors, defibrillators, IV pumps, electrosurgical units, respirators, anesthesia units, hyperthermia units, suction and pressure pumps, centrifuges, and any other related biomedical instrumentation.

  • Initiate PM, and repair on medical equipment, to ensure it is safe and effective for use.

  • Oversee the use of medical devices and initiate needed changes for improvement of utilization

  • Ensure compliance with applicable accredited agencies for assigned areas.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Required High School Diploma/GED GED or high school diploma

  • Preferred Associate's Degree Biomedical Engineering Technology or related

  • Preferred Bachelor's Degree Biomedical Engineering Technology or related

  • 2 years With BS degree in a technology related field, at least 2 years relevant progressive service experience in Healthcare Technology Required

  • 4 years With AS degree in a technology related field, at least 4 years relevant progressive service experience in Healthcare Technology Required

  • 7 years If neither AS nor BS degree in a technology related field, 7 years relevant progressive service experience in a related field with at least 2 years in Healthcare Technology Required

  • A+ Certified Professional (A+CERT) - CompTia A+, Network +, Security + or related IT certification preferred within 24 months

  • Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) - Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation CBET, CHTM or CCE preferred within 24 months
