HX5 is currently seeking an Instrumentation Engineer to join our team in Brook Park, Ohio, in support of the GEARS contract at NASA Glenn Research Center.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The selected candidate will provide instrumentation engineering support to NASA's Glenn Research Center (GRC) for hydrogen / oxygen regenerative fuel cells in lunar applications. This includes basic analytical work, experimental design, test stand build-up, and testing for electrochemical, electrical, fluidic, and thermal (including cryogenic) components and sub-systems.
Required Skills:
  • Strong hands-on experience designing, assembling, and operating test benches and/or calibration stands for specialized instruments.
  • Experience developing and executing calibration protocols to ensure measurement accuracy and precision.
  • Strong experience with selecting and operating components in hazardous environments as described in Article 500 of NFPA 70.

Other Desired Skills:
  • Familiarity with fuel cell and/or electrolysis hardware at both the stack and system levels preferred.
  • While the immediate relevance is for experience with the PEM chemistry, other electrochemical chemistries are acceptable (e.g. alkaline (KOH or NaOH), Direct Methanol, Molten Carbonate, Phosphoric Acid, or Solid Oxide).
  • Familiarity designing and/or operating hardware for extreme thermal environments or aggressive chemical environments preferred.

Education/Experience:
Electrical Engineering degree from an accredited program, with the following education and experience:
  • Bachelor's degree with 5 to 10 years of experience; at least 8 years is preferred.
  • Master's degree with 3 to 6 years of experience.
  • Ph.D. with 0 to 3 years of experience.

Other Position Requirements:
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position.
  • Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
