Job Description
Ashland Theological Seminary (ATS) is a graduate division of Ashland University, located in Ashland, Ohio. The position is a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in Biblical Studies. This nine-month position begins on August 23, 2027.
Ethos of Ashland Theological Seminary
ATS was founded by the Brethren Church, whose Anabaptist and Pietist heritage shapes the core values of the Seminary. The Seminary is an evangelical and ecumenical institution, as well as a community of faith whose identity is shaped by its service to the scholarly community, the church, and the world. We embrace a diversity that finds its unity in Jesus Christ. We are committed to practicing justice in our engagement with one another and with the world. As partners in ministry and brothers and sisters in Christ, we strive to foster a redemptive community that lives by the values of God's kingdom.
Agreement with the Seminary's Statement of Faith, Mission, Strategic Vision, and Ethos statement is required.
  • Candidate will demonstrate competence in the study and teaching of the Hebrew Bible, including but not limited to hermeneutics, exegesis, and Biblical Hebrew language.
  • Teach and advise students in Seminary courses in Biblical Studies, provide academic oversight of students, will pursue scholarly and professional development, serve on departmental and Seminary committees as needed, and work collegially with Seminary faculty and local stakeholders.
  • Candidate will demonstrate a commitment to support and respect the Brethren Church heritage, commit to theological education delivered from a Christ-centered worldview, express a strong commitment to a servant-leadership model.
  • Deliver courses in multiple formats, whether in-person, hybrid, fully online, or intensive. Courses may be scheduled during the daytime, evenings, and/or weekends.
  • Expected to participate in all relevant Seminary student and faculty academic activities.
  • Represent the Seminary and engage in community activities that promote theological education and Christian practices.

Required Qualifications
  • PhD in Hebrew Bible or cognate discipline.
  • Record of successful experience in higher education and/or other educational environments. (experience teaching in non-traditional formats, hybrid and/or online courses preferable)
  • Track record as a collaborative servant-leader with outstanding skills in written and verbal communication and in interpersonal relationships.
  • Active participation in the life of the Church.
  • Leadership experience in Christian ministry.
