Description
The Athletic Director is responsible for managing all extracurricular athletics for Good Shepherd. This includes team selection processes, weekly communications, uniform & equipment management, financial oversight and player/coach discipline when needed. The number of players can exceed 100 student athletes per season. Team sports include, but are not limited to:
  • Cross Country
  • Flag Football
  • Basketball
  • Futsal
  • Baseball
  • Volleyball

The Athletic Director has a passion for:
  • Sharing the mission of the school, emphasizing our education and formation of the whole child, specifically in the physical and moral development of student athletes through sport
  • Building relationships student athletes, families, and coaches
  • Managing the operations and communications of the athletic programs

Essential Duties:
Duties - % of time spent
  • Facilities and Equipment Management - 50%
  • Communication and Promotion of Athletics Program - 30%
  • Management of Team Selection Process - 10%
  • Recruitment, Training, and Management of Coaches and Assistants - 10%

Specific Duties:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Facilities and Equipment Management
  • Act as Gym Manager/Host for home games and tournaments
  • Lead the care and maintenance of athletic facilities and equipment
  • Manage inventory, distribution, and collection of uniforms assigned to student athletes
  • Assist the Principal in preparing annual budget and accurate recording of expenses

Communication and Promotion of Athletics Program
  • Promote and communicate details/requirements for sports participation
  • Communicate and celebrate 'mission wins' from the athletic program
  • Communicate schedules to promote community attendance and support

Management of Team Selection Process
  • Organize, Schedule, Promote, and Execute Team Sport Tryouts, when appropriate
  • Manage Team Rosters and Coaching Assignments
  • Act as main point of contact for team concerns/issues from families and coaches

Recruitment, Training, and Management of Coaches and Assistants
  • Promote volunteer opportunities in the Good Shepherd community to ensure each team has sufficient support of quality coaches and assistants that are fully compliant with the Archdiocesan policy for work with minors
  • Supervise and oversee volunteer coaches and assistants to ensure they are knowledgeable, effective, and reliable in their coaching duties
  • Act as primary point of contact for concerns/issues with coaches or assistants from student athletes, families, and CSAL

Requirements
Competencies:
  • To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate:
  • Evangelical zeal and apostolic mindset
  • A self-starter attitude and ability to enthusiastically motivate people
  • Great communication and interpersonal skills
  • Intermediate level of IT literacy, with a willingness to learn new technologies
  • Attention to detail and organization, especially in record keeping
  • Strong teamwork skills

Qualifications:
Required
  • Be a fully initiated Catholic in the communion of the Catholic Church and intentionally living out the five precepts of the Church (CCC 2041-2043)
  • A love for children of all ages and commitment to their academic, spiritual, moral, social, and physical growth and development
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

Preferred
  • 2+ years' experience working closely with the life of a Catholic school
  • Experience in an Athletic Director role and/or work with CSAL
