What are some typical challenges faced by professionals in contract algorithmic trading roles?

Professionals in contract algorithmic trading often encounter challenges such as adapting quickly to new trading platforms, integrating with proprietary APIs, and meeting tight deadlines for strategy deployment. The fast-paced nature of the industry requires staying up-to-date with rapidly evolving market conditions and regulatory requirements. Additionally, contractors must be adept at collaborating with in-house quantitative analysts and developers to ensure seamless strategy implementation and performance monitoring.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a contract algorithmic trader, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Contract Algorithmic Trader, you need strong quantitative analysis skills, programming expertise (often in Python or C++), and a solid understanding of financial markets, typically supported by a degree in mathematics, finance, or computer science. Familiarity with trading platforms, backtesting frameworks, and data analysis tools is crucial, and certifications like CFA or FRM can be advantageous. Exceptional problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and the capacity to work independently under tight deadlines set standout professionals apart. These skills are essential for developing effective trading strategies, mitigating risks, and adapting quickly in the dynamic, high-stakes environment of algorithmic trading.

What is contract algorithmic trading?

Job description

About Us Fractal Power is a vertically integrated power company built for the modern grid. We own and operate across the entire stack, combining utility-scale energy storage infrastructure with algorithmic trading and dispatch to deliver power precisely where and when it’s needed most. We are backed by the world’s leading infrastructure and deeptech investors, including Riot, Definition, and Worldbuild.

Why Join Us? Demand for power is growing at the fastest rate since WWII yet supply is stranded behind worsening transmission and interconnection bottlenecks. The new economy requires a new model of power delivery, one that’s vertically integrated, algorithmically operated, and co-located with demand. We solve the last-mile infrastructure problem by vertically integrating across the entire value chain of American power - from greenfield development, to algorithmic optimization, dispatch, and power trading across a fleet of distributed resources - allowing us to deliver power where and when it's needed most on the grid. We have the ambition, the team, and the zeal to create the next great power company and we are looking for fanatical people to join us.

Role Overview You will own the end-to-end delivery of Fractal’s distribution-connected, utility-scale battery energy storage projects in ERCOT, from greenfield site through interconnection, construction, energization, and commercial operation. You are the single accountable owner for every project assigned to you. You will build and defend the integrated project schedule, manage all pre-NTP development operations, administer the EPC contract, and drive the critical path across land, interconnection, permitting, procurement, engineering, construction, and commissioning. You will hold the project EPC contractor and every other party to their commitments, and you will have broad authority to pull in any resource in the company to keep projects moving. You will be measured on whether projects reach commercial operation on schedule and on budget. You will operate with extraordinary agency, ownership, and expectations.

Key Responsibilities Own the schedule, budget, and commercial operation date for every project assigned to you, from site control and interconnection application through energization, commissioning, and COD. Build and maintain the integrated master schedule for each project, sequencing land, interconnection, permitting, procurement, engineering, EPC construction, and utility work into a single critical path. Act as the owner-side administrator of the EPC contract: issue and manage work orders, review and negotiate change orders, track milestone completion and payment, and hold contractors to scope, schedule, and quality. Drive permitting and AHJ approvals across counties and municipalities, and coordinate with transmission and distribution utilities, electric cooperatives, and ERCOT through energization and market entry Maintain a live risk register and a project status report that is the single source of truth on where each project stands, force decisions before they turn into delays, and elevate early with a recommended path Plan and manage commissioning, energization, and turnover to operations, including as-builts, warranties, spare parts, O&M mobilization, and the handoff of assets into our dispatch and trading operations Represent Fractal on site and with landowners, contractors, utilities, and local officials, and enforce safety and quality expectations even where the EPC carries execution responsibility Build Fractal’s project controls and execution playbook.

Qualifications
  • 3+ years managing utility-scale energy or infrastructure projects through construction and into operation, at a developer, IPP, owner’s engineer, or EPC contractor.
  • Demonstrated personal ownership of schedule and budget on projects you drove to completion, with the ability to walk through your critical path, what threatened it, and what you did about it.
  • Command of construction contracts from the owner’s side: EPC scope, work orders, change orders, notices, milestone and completion criteria, warranties, and liquidated damages.
  • Exceptional organization and follow-through. You plan in detail, you track every open item to closure, and nothing handed to another party gets lost.
  • Fluent in English
  • Willingness to travel to project sites across Texas
What We Offer
  • Base salary range: $50,000 USD–$80,000 USD per year (actual offer depends on experience, skills, and qualifications)
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Flexible PTO policy
