Job Summary
Reliance, Inc., is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Environmental, Health and Safety Intern to join our team and support our commitment to a safe, healthy, and environmentally responsible workplace. This internship offers hands-on experience in EHS program implementation, hazard and risk recognition, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives. You will work closely with experienced EHS professionals and gain exposure to real-world applications for an organization committed to eliminating workplace injuries and environmental impacts.
This is an excellent opportunity for students pursuing degrees in occupational safety, environmental science, industrial hygiene, engineering, public health, or related fields to build practical skills and contribute meaningfully to organizational safety culture.

Function in the Job
Sedentary Work- Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Job Function
• Assist in conducting workplace safety inspections, hazard assessments, and safety walkthroughs
• Support preparation for and participation in internal/external audits and regulatory inspections
• Help maintain and update EHS-related documentation, including Safety Data Sheets (SDS), chemical inventories, waste records, training materials, and incident reports
• Participate in environmental compliance activities (e.g., waste management, stormwater monitoring, air/water permitting support, spill prevention)
• Contribute to the development and delivery of safety training materials and toolbox talks
• Assist with data collection, analysis, and reporting for EHS metrics (injury rates, near-miss trends, environmental performance indicators)
• Support implementation of safety programs such as lockout/tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, machine guarding, industrial hygiene assessment, emergency preparedness, etc.
• Help identify and evaluate potential hazards; recommend practical control measures
• Perform system tasks to support EHS department operations (database updates, permit tracking, data trending)
Required Skills
Qualifications & Requirements
Required:
• Currently enrolled in (or recently graduated from) a bachelor's or master's program in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science/Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Chemical Engineering, Public Health, or a closely related field
• Strong interest in environmental, health, and safety professions
• Basic understanding of OSHA standards, EPA regulations, and/or general workplace safety principles
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel and Word)
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational and analytical skills
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team and highly matrixed work environment
Preferred:
• Experience with Power BI, SharePoint, or EHS software is a plus
• Previous internship, co-op, or project experience in EHS, manufacturing, metals processing or construction industries
• Familiarity with hazard recognition, risk assessment techniques, or industrial hygiene concepts
• Completion of OSHA 10-hour or 30-hour General Industry/Construction training (or willingness to obtain)
• Knowledge of sustainability or environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001, ISO 45001)
