Job description

DETENTION REGISTERED NURSE

Marin County Detention Health Services provides comprehensive healthcare to individuals incarcerated in the County's adult and juvenile detention facilities. Operated under the Division of Public Health within the Department of Health and Human Services, Detention Health Services functions as a dedicated healthcare delivery system serving a unique and essential population. Under the supervision of the Nursing Services Manager, the Detention Registered Nurse (DRN) plays a key role in delivering medical care to adult inmates at the County jail. This position involves working in a correctional healthcare setting and requires sound clinical judgment, adaptability, and strong collaboration skills. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Screening and assessing detainees for medical clearance and facility acceptance
  • Conducting health intake assessments
  • Planning, coordinating, and evaluating nursing care and treatment plans
  • Administering medications
  • Triaging sick call complaints
  • Providing first aid and immunizations
  • Collecting laboratory specimens and maintaining medical supplies
  • Documenting and maintaining accurate clinical and inmate records

The DRN works closely with a multidisciplinary team, including Social Services and Behavioral Health professionals, Juvenile Hall custody staff, Probation Officers, and Sheriff's Office personnel to ensure holistic and coordinated care. The Division of Public Health currently has one (1) contingent/temporary Detention Registered Nurse positions available at this time.
