At Community Journals, the creative force behind Greenville Journal, Upstate Business Journal, TOWN, and atHome magazines, we're on a mission to tell inspiring stories and strengthen our connection with a vibrant community. As a locally owned company, we're passionate about informing, connecting, and inspiring the people of Greenville County, South Carolina and South Carolina's Upstate region.
About the role: As a Multimedia Writer/Reporter, you'll be tasked with crafting vibrant, engaging content in newsletters, printed products and on social media for our local and regional audiences. You'll also be expected to report on local news events, turning around quick digital hits and producing informative stories, photos and video for our websites and printed editions. The person hired will be an excellent writer, confident reporter, visual journalist, digital native, innovative thinker and constant collaborator with the rest of the news team.
What you'll do:
  • Report on news events and topics in Greenville County, South Carolina, and the wider Upstate South Carolina region.
  • Assist with, and at times supervise, the compilation, assembly and publication of our daily newsletters.
  • Work with the editor and news staff to continuously refine and execute an effective social media strategy.
  • Produce and publish social media content across all publications and platforms.
  • Capture and edit video and photos for publication across a wide range of print and digital products.

Requirements
The successful candidate will:
  • Have a bachelor's degree, or equivalent experience relevant to coverage of local news.
  • Have a record of published, professional work related to several aspects of the job description. Motivated recent college graduates with an exceptional portfolio of published work will also be considered, but should provide a full explanation of their relevant experience in an attached letter.
  • Possess outstanding writing skills and a thorough understanding of both AP style and standard grammar.
  • Be an independent thinker and unfailing idea generator.
  • Be a confident, polished writer who welcomes editing and input.
