Our client is a Fortune 500 digital media company that is a recognized leader in audiobooks, podcasts, and audio entertainment.
They are now looking to add to their team and are looking to hire a "Metadata Generalist" . This role will be based out of Newark, NJ.
About This Role
Based in Newark, the client is seeking a Metadata Generalist, Catalog Operations (m/f/x)to support our Catalog Operations team. In this role, you will be responsible for assisting the team with metadata operations: updates, reporting, analysis, and more. You will help ensure that the metadata of our product catalog is up-to-date, correct, and accurate. You will articulate and oversee operational best practices for metadata management, align work and requirements with internal and international stakeholders, and drive, contribute to, and execute projects, workflows, and processes in the metadata domain. Additionally, you will work closely with various teams across the organization to ensure seamless metadata operations, serving as a subject matter expert and point of contact for all metadata-related matters. This role also requires hands-on involvement in the day-to-day processing and maintenance of product metadata and strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to effectively coordinate across multiple teams and departments.
As a Metadata Generalist, Catalog Operations, you will be responsible for the following:

• Catalog Publishing

• Proofread and fact check product descriptions and supporting information.
• Provide QA for the client's style in product descriptions, data consistency, and related product linking for all product metadata.
• Meet daily copy editing quotas and complete prioritized processing requests.
• Research and assemble positive product review "blurbs" to be added to product descriptions.
• Provide taxonomy grooming support to ensure correct categorization.

• Catalog Publishing

• Provide support to the catalog team for existing content, reviewing asset exceptions and providing feedback to internal and external partners.
• Assist with catalog review, using database tools to identify appropriate content for escalation and enhancement.
• Provide support for the external distribution team, working with internal and external tools to ensure content is delivered and released on time to all relevant surfaces.
• Process and verify both daily and large-scale metadata update and correction requests received from providers, customers, and internal stakeholders.
• Ensure all requests are answered appropriately and in a timely manner.
• Maintain accuracy and completeness of the product catalog.

You have the ability to adapt to the client's business, communicate effectively with both the local Newark and global teams, as well as stakeholders. You are a strong contributor to the local and global content operations team efforts, helping to deliver the best possible localized listener experience. You are familiar with data best practices, acclimating to large data sources across various tools, and coalescing them in a unified analysis. You can acclimate to new use cases and adapt them to higher company principles in ad hoc scenarios. You are not afraid to learn new tools and approaches when presented with new tools and technology. You will feel comfortable in this role if you enjoy working with numerous stakeholders in a fast-paced environment, take pride in utilizing data to deliver accurate results, and want to push boundaries to optimize throughput with low defects. Basic Qualifications

• 3+ years experience in a position of responsibility in editorial/publishing, preferably digital publishing environment, ideally with proven experience in CMS databases, content maintenance, content risk management, and data analysis
• BA/BS or equivalent degree
• Editorial experience preparing online content
• Proofreading experience; copy editing experience a plus
• Proficiency in Excel and other Office software
• The ability to manage multiple projects or tasks at different stages in parallel and deal with ambiguous situations
• Previous experience with ticketing systems and process documentation (e.g. in a wiki)
• Experience with systems such as JIRA, Airtable, CMS, Tableau

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with audio and image formats and standards
• A confident and upbeat communicator via written and verbal business communication skills
• Previous professional experience in the media industry, covering areas such as supply chain or metadata management
• An avid consumer of online media, including books (audio and print), blogs, podcasts, and other digital content
• Up to date on industry trends
• Working knowledge of database concepts (including PowerQuery & SQL) and best practices
• Experience with GenAI and familiarity with vibe coding practices
• Familiarity with XML metadata exchange formats (ONIX, RSS) and audiobook/podcast distribution
• An avid consumer of online media and up to date on industry trends
• Familiarity with social media and related research tools
• Familiarity with SEO concepts
