Content Optimization information

What is content optimization?

Content optimization is the process of improving your website's content to make it more appealing and useful to both users and search engines. This involves refining text, images, metadata, and other elements to boost search engine rankings, increase user engagement, and achieve specific business goals. Techniques include keyword integration, improving readability, adding relevant links, and ensuring content is up to date. Effective content optimization helps drive more organic traffic and enhances the overall user experience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in content optimization, and why are they important?

To thrive in Content Optimization, you need expertise in SEO, keyword research, analytics, and a solid understanding of digital marketing principles, often supported by a degree in marketing, communications, or a related field. Familiarity with tools like Google Analytics, SEMrush, Ahrefs, and various content management systems is typically required. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, creativity, and effective communication help professionals stand out in this role. These skills ensure content reaches the right audience, performs well in search rankings, and aligns with business goals.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in content optimization roles, and how can they be addressed?

One common challenge in content optimization is balancing SEO requirements with maintaining engaging and natural-sounding content for readers. Professionals often need to collaborate closely with writers, editors, and SEO specialists to ensure content is both discoverable and valuable. Keeping up with frequent changes in search engine algorithms and best practices is also crucial. Addressing these challenges involves ongoing communication with team members, continuous learning, and using analytics tools to measure and refine optimization strategies.

What you'll be doing

Do you enjoy turning complex information into digital experiences that are simple, useful and easy to act on?

This is an opportunity to shape the online experience for customers and businesses using Black Horse, Lex Autolease and Tusker. You'll help ensure the right information is available at the right time, making it easier for people to understand vehicle finance and leasing products, complete tasks online and find support when they need it.

As a Digital Content Manager, you'll own and continually improve content across Blackhorse.co.uk, Lexautolease.co.uk and secure online services. Working closely with subject matter experts, UX and design teams, analytics colleagues, platform teams and risk and control partners, you'll create and optimise digital content that balances customer needs with commercial, operational and regulatory requirements.

You'll be responsible for taking content from initial brief through to publication and performance review. That means shaping requirements, writing and editing content, preparing CMS updates, carrying out quality assurance checks, monitoring results and identifying opportunities to improve customer journeys. You'll also play an important role in helping colleagues translate complex product, service and regulatory information into clear, accessible language that customers can easily understand and use.

Working as part of a collaborative digital team, you'll contribute to website enhancements, redesign projects and live service improvements. You'll use evidence, insight and good judgement to challenge requests where appropriate, simplify content and improve outcomes for customers.

Essential Skills:
  • 3+ years' experience managing website content through a Content Management System (CMS), ideally Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) or a similar platform.

  • 3+ years' experience writing, editing and optimising customer-facing digital content using plain English principles.

  • Experience using data, search insight, customer feedback, analytics or user research to improve digital content and customer journeys.

  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with experience working across multiple teams to ensure content is accurate, compliant and customer-focused.

Desirable Skills:
  • Knowledge of agile delivery methodologies and working within cross-functional digital teams.

  • Experience of SEO, GEO and digital content optimisation techniques.

  • Understanding of accessibility standards and inclusive content design principles.

  • Knowledge of HTML, CSS or AI-assisted content creation tools.
