Rail Terminal Services, a subsidiary of Rail Management Services, is a leader in the Intermodal Terminal Operations field. RTS is currently seeking a qualified applicant for the position of Shift Supervisor. at our location based in the Union Pacific Seattle, WA Rail Terminal.  

Starting Rate of Pay:
  • $25.00

Shift:
  • You must be available to work all shifts! 
  • Expected hours: 40 – 50 per week
  • 12 hours shifts
  • mandatory overtime

Job Summary:
As a Shift Supervisor, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient operation of our intermodal terminal, meeting customer service standards, and maintaining the highest level of safety and performance. You'll oversee various aspects of intermodal activities, including ramping, de-ramping, scheduling, and personnel management, ensuring that our operations align with company standards and government regulations.

Essential Job Responsibilities:
  • Intermodal Operations Coordination: You will be responsible for scheduling and coordinating intermodal activities, including the ramping and de-ramping of trailers and containers, to meet fluctuating business needs.
  • Personnel Performance: Ensure that personnel meet productivity goals and maintain service levels in line with company standards.
  • Customer Engagement: Prioritize outbound trailer loads to meet train schedules, maintain direct contact with customers, and ensure the availability of equipment to meet their requirements.
  • Safety: Uphold company safety policies and maintain high standards for all employees.
  • Cost-Effective Operations: Ensure intermodal freight handling is cost-effective for the company while meeting customer service standards.
  • Inbound and Outbound Coordination: Coordinate inbound and outbound trains to ensure accuracy and securement.
  • Manpower and Schedule Management: Determine manpower levels, personnel schedules, and duties assigned.
  • Effective Communication: Maintain daily contact with Assistant Terminal Managers and Terminal Manager for informational purposes and recommendations to improve productivity and cost controls.
  • Other Duties: Perform any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Advanced Knowledge: Advanced knowledge of the railroad industry from vocational education, apprenticeship, on-the-job training, or similar work experience.
  • Conflict Resolution: Ability to assist in conflict resolution and mediation between co-workers.
  • Managerial Skills: Proven managerial skills, including leadership, motivation, successful employee training, understanding of Collective Bargaining Agreements, government regulations, and industry standards.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to coordinate with a variety of individuals.

Work Environment:
  • Job duties are performed in all outdoor conditions, including rain, snow, ice, heat, wind, and cold.
  • Travel throughout the yard and the transfer station may be required by walking or driving.
  • This is a physically demanding position, and due to the hazardous nature of the environment, the individual must be able to see and hear fast-moving equipment.

Job Requirements/Responsibilities:
  • Able to work a flexible shift including the possibility of nights and weekends.
  • Professional attitude and presentation are required.
  • Must possess the ability to supervise and motivate employees.
  • Individual must possess a valid driver's license, organizational and communication skills.
  • Must be PC literate with data entry capability.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
  • Coordinate manpower in daily railroad operations.
  • Must pass a background check, a drug test, and EVERIFILE.
  • Supervise the activities related to the intermodal yard to ensure customer satisfaction.
